Re: Prediction League Game 32; Southend (home)

Prediction League – Game 32; v Southend (home)
“Overall their League record is P28 W11 D6 L11 F37 A34 for 39 points and 10th place; we’re on 33 points from 26, F37 A 39, lying 16th; should be a decent game!”
That was then, of course; this is now. Isn’t it strange how much things can change in 7 weeks?
Their current record is P39 W14 D10 L15 F53 A48 for 52 points and 14th place (so in those 7 weeks they’ve played 11, winning 3, drawing 4 and losing 4, scoring 16 and conceding 14, gaining 13 points and dropping 4 places).
Our current record is P39 W15 D15 L9 F61 A50 for 60 points and 8th place (so in the same period we’ve played 13 of which we’ve won 8, drawn 3 and lost 2, scored 24 and conceded 11, gaining 27 points and climbing 8 places ).
They were certainly on a run immediately prior to the postponed game – winning 4 and drawing 1 of their previous 6; of their last ten, though, they’ve only won two – 2-1 at home to Barnet and 4-0 against Hereford, also at Roots Hall – with 4 draws and 4 defeats, leaving them 9 points (and a worse goal difference) off the playoffs, although they do have one game in hand over many of the teams above them (not including us! ).
In those last ten games they’ve only managed 13 goals, although to be fair they’ve only conceded 12; the Hereford win skews the numbers a little. Leading scorers are summer-signing Barry Corr (ex Exeter) with 18, ex Chelsea midfielder (and England u19 international) Anthony Grant on 7 (tho he hasn’t added to that total in 7 weeks), and striker (and boss’s son) Blair Sturrock (another summer signing, this time from Mansfield) and midfielder Ryan Hall – signed from BSS side Bromley, but better known, perhaps, for the 20 week prison sentence he was given by Southend Magistrates after admitting a charge of affray after the Southend United Christmas party (later reduced to 12 weeks (and suspended) on appeal) - each with 6.
Away they’ve won 6, drawn 4 and lost 9; we’ve got the second-best home record in the Division - W12 D4 L3 - bettered only by Chesterfield (nobody has lost fewer home games than us), and the second highest tally of goals at home – now jointly with Crewe, after today’s 8 to add to their earlier 7 against Barnet – again, behind only Chesterfield.
Seven Cup Finals left; if we win this one, we go 6th and push Gillingham out of the playoff slots. We’ve scored three (or better) in each of our last 5 home games , and lots of people think we could (should) have put even more away … 12 for Terry, 12 for Sean, 11 for Phil, 6 each for Jimmy and Ian; there’s a few goals left in the tank ……….. But how many? And how many are we going to allow Southend on their first-ever visit to Fortress Crown?
The deadline for entries is, as ever, scheduled kick-off time, which is 7.45pm on Tuesday 5th April. Big win? Small win? ANY win? Get your guesses in quickly, Ladies and Gentlemen; the prize for winning the Prediction League could well be a season ticket for a League One team; how good would THAT be?
Good luck to everyone ………… and thanks for playing!
