Re: Dialect phrases to describe Hyndburn (Greater Accrington)

I can do owt, bar wheel missel in a barrow.
(I'm quite talented and I know it)
referring to someone who thinks themself to be smart(as above) it would be said...'he has ten bob on hissel'(he has ten bob on himself)
A women with a lot of make up on......'bad soil teks a lot of top dressing'....top dressing being manure.

said before a fight......'dusta want some clog toe pie'

Going back to the old days, my grandad was a most mild mannered man...except when he had had a skinful....and back then he could be inebriated off just a couple of pints(was beer stronger back then?)........he used to drink in the Woodnook.....my gran would go down there and shout through the door 'George...hasta fowt yet? Get fowt, your dinners ready'

I don't really remember this but my auntie Phyllis(his daughter) used to tell me about it.
He mellowed with age and took to singing(badly) instead of fighting.
