Re: St.John's School, Accrington

I went there in the early 1950's, and I believe the Mother's Union was centered there. Don't know how many years - I think it must have been nursery school because I transferred to Peel Park for a year or two before we emigrated to the U.S. in 1954.

Does anybody remember the teacher, Evelyn Bury at St. John's? She became a friend of my mother's, and they corresponded across the Atlantic for many years. We lost track of her in the late 1960s, I think. Mrs. Bury was an ardent pacifist, and she was associated with Lord Bertrand Russell's activism against nuclear weapons. I believe she knew him. I'd love to find somebody who recalled her and/or knows something about her family. I believe she had a daughter named Nancy.

All very hazy recollections.
