2010/11 prediction league - final report

Stanley Prediction League 2010/11 – Final Report

The final league tables are attached again for the benefit of those who haven’t noticed that the last post in each weekly thread includes them …..

Congratulations go to C’mon Stanley who emerged at the end of the season as a clear winner with 110 points, 11 clear of Nige B who sneaked past Kiwi John in the last week to take the second place Kiwi had been holding for a long time.

Wolverhampton Reds was an early leader, then Valairian showed in front for a while, Kiwi John took over around the halfway mark but C'mon Stanley led for the last 10 games or so. Yerself, Nige B and DaBeast were always there or thereabouts without ever making a decisive move.

C’mon Stanley takes the prize of a 2011/12 season ticket, generously donated by a Prediction League player who insists on remaining anonymous but receives thanks from us all. I just hope he bought it at the earlybird price …..

Some other facts which may or may not be of interest …

93 people had a go at some point during the season, including a number of opposition supporters and those who have us as their second club. 57 people played more than 10 times, 48 people more than 20 .

14 people were committed / sad enough to play every week . These were (in order of appearance in the final table) , Nige B, David1, Wolverhampton Reds, KSH, Shurm, Cashman, Valairian, Me , NorwichStanley, Div3North , Redash, Wynonie, Outback Ozzy and Footy Nut.

16 people played once. I just about forgive them for the pain involved in adding them into the results database … just about!

I appear to have processed 2206 entries during the season . The average points score per entry was 1.87. 2 people averaged 4 points per entry – but they only made one entry. C’mon Stanley’s winning average was 2.62 over 42 entries, which was also the best average of people playing more than 5 times. Second best average was Waddy17, 2.29 over 35 entries.

The players with most spot-on predictions (result and score) were David1 and Football19, with 8 each. But they only had 15 and 13 (respectively) "draws" - results correct with the scores wrong, whereas C.mon Stanley had only 6 perfect but 22 draws. If you think those numbers don’t quite add up when you look at the table, remember a draw is worth 4 points if you get one of the scores right.

30 people never predicted a Stanley loss. Redash, Sparkie and Wynonie predicted a Stanley win every time they played

The Rovers / Clarets unofficial competition was won by the Dingles’ rep, 83-76.

I think Redash has a function key set up to go “3-1 to The Stanley, please chaps.”

Finally, Wynonie’s aggregate prediction for the season was 187-52 – roughly 4-1 on average. But I don’t think he finally lost his tablets until the Torquay home game. The away prediction was actually spookily accurate - only 3 off

It’s been fun. See you at Old Trafford – I’m off to Turkey tomorrow morning for a week!!
