They've fought off all opposition to open a new Tesco in Padiham, even though there is a big Tesco Extra in Burnley. In Rossendale there is Tesco Rawtenstall and another literally 1 mile up the road in Haslingden.
So I was a bit skeptical that they would close Accy Tesco. Even if it loses £60k per week (as rumoured-I'm not saying it's true), that is nothing to Tesco. £1 in every £7 spent in the UK is spent at Tesco. They could hide that loss simply by delaying payment to suppliers by about 3 minutes. They would rather stay open at a loss than allow their competitors to step in.
However if they have
really closed Nelson Tesco, I guess that shows that it
can happen. (I bet the reason is, they're planning to open an even bigger store at Colne to compete with the new Sainsbury's there
Anyhow, I went for the first time last weekend. The massive car park was half full and it was pretty busy inside. Not dead like some would have you believe.
