George Stewart
The club was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of George Stewart, a Stanley legend from our previous days in the Football League.
The Scottish striker scored 136 goals in 182 matches for Accrington Stanley. He signed in 1954, and broke the club's goalscoring record in 1955/56, scoring 35 goals including three hat tricks, before moving to Coventry in 1958. He is remembered fondly by those who recall him playing here, and his name known by many as a true Stanley legend who is very much a part of the history of our great club.
George passed away on Saturday 4th June, aged 84. His funeral takes place at 1pm on Wednesday 8th June at Buckie North Church in Banffshire, Scotland. The thoughts of us all are with his friends and family at this sad time.
One of the Stanley Greats My Condolances to his family and friends.R.I.P George...
