LIVERPOOL FC captain Steven Gerrard received more than £300,000 from public funds in the form of reimbursed legal fees following his acquittal over an affray charge.
A jury at Liverpool Crown Court acquitted Gerrard of unjustly attacking businessman Marcus McGee in the Lounge Inn, Southport, on December 29, 2008.
Gerrard admitted hitting him but denied affray, saying it was in self-defence.
Around £311,000 of Gerrard’s legal costs were repaid under rules allowing people who pay for their own lawyers and are acquitted to have their costs reimbursed, according to a report yesterday.
