Mark Duggan

The death of Mark Duggan sparked the disturbances in Tottenham that led to the rioting across London and other cities. They are being discussed at length in other posts, but it is worth having a separate thread to talk about the specifics of his death, which raise a whole raft of other issues.

The IPCC has published its initial findings. It seems that he was sitting in the back of a taxi when he was shot, and a firearm was found next to him. The firearm had been converted from one that fires blank rounds to one that fires live bullets. A bulleted cartridge was found in the gun. It was not a replica, but was rather an illegal firearm.

There was no evidence that the gun had been discharged, and the two bullets fired at the scene came from police weapons. Duggan died from a single shot wound.

The IPCC reports that the police firearms officers claim they discharged their weapons in the belief that there was a threat to human life. The guidelines allow them to open fire in such circumstances.

The family of Mark Duggan have expressed their concern at the findings. They feel that someone should be held responsible for his death.

I agree with them. There is only one person responsible for Mark Duggan's death. The low life nonentity that climbed into the back of a taxi with a loaded illegal gun, and acted in such a way that armed police were called and felt it necessary to shoot him because he was a threat to human life.

ie their beloved Mark.
