No mercy should be shown to the rioters, the arsonists the looters. Throw the book at them, send them to jail, and chuck away the key.

One thing occurs to me. How many of the looters did it because they could? Law and Order had broken down, and there was nobody there to stop them. They nipped into the shop and took a plasma tv away.

Now explain to me why that makes them different from an MP who claimed for duck islands, paid off mortgages or second homes that didn't exist? The system had broken down so they nipped in and looted the expenses pot.

That's what makes what they did so deplorable, yet some of the culprits are still in Parliament condemning the looters. They set the standards that others have followed.
