Have you ever seen the Japanese version of Tenko? it's all about a bunch of Nip POW's stuck in a British prisoner camp in Ossy - Stanhill, I believe. Apparently, parts of the camp outline can still be seen. Anyway, our Jap friends were not to impressed with Ossy - lots of unspeakable cruelties and sickening tortures were the norm, inflicted by the local populace, a bunch of semi-barbarians.
It's still the same today, should anyone have the courage to venture into this wild, uncivilised dark corner of Lancashire.
