2011 Prediction League – Game 25; v Burton Albion (away)

Biggest non-surprise of the season so far? Bristol Rovers sacking Paul Buckle . Biggest surprise of the season? Burton losing at home to Hereford on Monday might get a few votes …………..

A 2-1 win at Fortress Crown at the end of August cemented our lead over the Brewers in League games since they came up; it was our 3rd win in five , with one draw (1-1 away, at the end of last season) and just one defeat (March 2010 at our place). They might well want to man-mark Deanno on Friday as well, since he scored against them in last season’s draw (his first for the Stanley) and also in the August win …… Don’t recall he’s done it against anyone else, but watch out Burton – he’s after his third ………………..

Their “big” signing, of course, was Billy Whizz (Kee) at the end of August; since joining them he’s scored 12, making him second-leading scorer in the Division. After snapping him up, they’ve added some more to the squad – Andres Gurrieri, a 22 year-old Swiss-born Argentinian attacking midfielder (who also had trials at Bournemouth and Plymouth), ex Walsall keeper James Wren (18), Foxes’ winger Jason Barton (also 18) on loan, ex Bristol City, Yeovil, Swansea and Swindon defender Kevin Kwaku Osei-Kuffour Amankwaah (29), and 22 year old centre back Kristian Ramsey-Dixon, found working in a pizza restaurant and playing for Continental Star in the Midlands Combination Premier League ………… What’s a Swiss-born Argentinian attacking midfielder doing playing for Burton Albion anyway, you might ask? Out, on loan to Aldershot, has gone striker Greg Pearson (26).

They exited all the Cup competitions at the first hurdle; their last 5 League games have ended in a 3-2 win at (almost) rock bottom side Northampton (now managed by Aidy Boothroyd, who’s been Boss at a different team in each of the last 4 years – Watford, Colchester, Coventry and the Cobblers), two draws (2-2 at Morecambe and 1-1 at home to the Daggers), and two defeats (3-0 at Crawley and 2-0 at home to Hereford); 5 games, 5 points (we’re on 9 games, 21 points!)

Currently they lie 7th in League 2 on 40 points; P24 W11 D7 L6; we’re in 11th (36 points) with a record of W9 D9 L6 F32 A26 – 4 points behind them, but with a +6 goal difference as against their +2. We’ve drawn more games than anyone in the Division (9) , only the top 3 teams have lost fewer games than us (6) , and only 5 sides have more wins at home than us ……….. Goals they can score; 38 in 24 League fixtures (conceding 36 ….), 43 in all 27 matches (47 conceded ………..). Leading scorers are Billy Kee (12), Justin Richards (11) and Calvin Zola (9); no-one else has more than 3 ……

The deadline for entries is, as ever, scheduled kick-off time, which is 7.45pm on Friday 6th January. We appear to be the form team – and wouldn’t it be nice if Coley won Manager of the Month, and if Bryan won League 2 Player of the Month? Believe ……… The push for the playoffs seems to have started earlier this season ……. Get your guesses down as soon as, good people - the worst you can be is wrong ………or in my case, wrong again!

Good luck to everyone ………… and thanks for playing!
