Resources and websites for Accrington history and genealogy

Post your links and resources here to help those researching their Accrington local history and relatives...

World War I
I have just discovered the following website for World War I Campaign Medals
http://www.documentsonline.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

It is very popular at the moment (especially when America is awake) so try it at 9:00 am GMT. At other times it pays to be patient as it can be slow.

Navigate to the advance search and submit your ancestors surname and forename.

Useful explanation about the medals from WWI here

Further information on the regiments and battalion history can be found on the Long, Long Trail site here (try a search for Lancashire Fusiliers for example)

And of course do not forget to visit the Accrington Pals website at it's new domain
