Extradition Treaty with the USA

The case of Christopher Tappin, the retired British businessman extradited to the USA for alleged arms dealing, has called into question the current extradition arrangements between the UK and the USA.

Has he been treated justly? His supporters claim that the British Government has "done nothing to question whether he should face extradition to the US. Not one piece of evidence has been given to a British court".

On the other hand, an independent review of the UK’s extradition arrangements by retired Court of Appeal judge Sir Scott Baker last year found that the current treaty between the US and the UK was both balanced and fair.

So what are we to believe? Is it reasonable to bring into the argument the case of alleged terrorist Abu Qatada, who has not been extradited to Jordan?

Seems an urgent inquiry is needed.
