Re: The early Swindon match thread ............

I think RR's post (95) was a good summary of the game I saw.
First half we were awful and were lucky to go in only two down (although Swindon's second was suspiciously like offside). Their wingers gave us a roasting and at times three of them were fighting with each other to get on the end of the crosses. It wasn't rocket science - if the sun's low and the goalie doesn't wear a cap, get the crosses in. I didn't think having McIntyre in front of Liddle worked.
Second half we showed much more promise. Murphy was very sound as centre back and, despite his modest stature, so was Liddle. Keeping a clean sheet for the second half was not solely down to saves from the new keeper, although he did excel himself in that department. The new player I thought showed most potential was Devitt; although he had to drop back to get hold of the ball, he looked up and made some good attacking passes. Very unlucky to see Hughes come on at half time only to go off injured after a couple of minutes. Smith's entrance and performance revealed how ineffective Lindfield was throughout the 90 minutes;just a pity Guthrie couldn't have also got on to replace Lindfield.

For spells Stanley showed some real promise in all but one aspect of the game; it's just unfortunate that it's scoring goals that gets the points. But, after 0-4 at home against the bottom of the league, 2-0 away to the top of the league must be some kind of improvement.

The Chef is going to need more time to get the team playing how he wants them but I fear that it may result in more wholsesale changes at half time and, with the fixtures that are left, missing out on another play-off push. I hope not. But there were grounds for optimism in that second half performance.
Fidem servare.
