The print spooler is a "Service" that runs within windows and is not something the printer drivers supply.
on XP go control panel - Administer Computer - Services
scroll down and you will find Print Spooler
Make sure its set to Automatic startup. you can click start to do it manually this time. Try printing now and it should be fine.
A print spooler if you are interested is a buffer between the program you are printing from and the printer itself. its so you can send numerous docs to be printed and the operating system just sends them to the printer itself as fast as the prionter can handle them.

Thanks for all the replies. It's windows 7 that we are running. I know that you give me the solution for XP, so tried looking for that just in case it's the same, but can't find it. So anymore advice would be gratefully appreaciated.
