Not taking up on your point of who is in charge, Cashy, is going to be a problem no matter who is in power, due to the fact we all want cars now and overcrowding (as Jaysay mentioned), is our problem. It is us, the public, that are creating this problem. Just look down your street now and see how many houses have 2/3 cars. We are our own worst enemy, being lazy or snobby about public transport.
Ok, may generate more road tax,VAT from petrol sales,but this money does not go into a separate account. Goes direct into the Treasury pot and for the powers that be to decide which are the priorities. Some more than others.
