As professional drivers, the tanker lads will be running on a Drivers card, driving times & pauses are stored & checked on said card.
Strict guidelines as to when & where to drive, pre planned routes which are set & followed plus various other rules, regs & conditions.
Further more due to EU policies they'd have undergone various modules concerning their job & undertaken several Hazmat/ Dangerous goods courses.
Having said that, that is how it is envisioned & as such is strongly enforced by the Police/BAG (DfT Freight & Haulage) & controlled over here even as a normal wagon driver without any Hazardous loads. Theoretically the same applies to UK.
So as to why they're threatening strike action, apparently over "Safety ? & Terms & conditions". But these issues are the same throughout Europe, so I think there's probably more to it than first appears to be the case. Unite & Mr.McCluskey flexing muscles ????
