For some reason this brings to mind an exchange I had with my gran, back in the days when the Earth was young and you could still see piles of horse manure in the cobbled street.
Gran: "What ti doin' lad"? Of course, immediately on guard, and on edge, wondering what I was in trouble for, I answered, "Nowt, gran". In a weaving-shed voice, one that could have been heard over a dozen looms: "WELL DO SUMMAT, SUMMAT USEFUL." Sometimes, I feel a little guilty about doing nowt. I know who to blame for that.
