Also visited the Lake District Bird of Prey Center on the Lowther Castle estate for a display of falconry -really interesting and impressive flying especially by the Gyr falcons.

Never realised that many birds of prey on the south coast were deliberately killed during WW1 and 2 as they hunted and killed carrier pigeons which were important means of communication back then (the falconer mentioned this during the display!)
What sort of Birds of prey do you have in Italy then? Spain has a lot of eagles and vultures. I havn't seen the Osprey's in the Lake District yet. There was a pair of Golden Eagles in Haweswater area saw one there. But one of them died and there has only been one present since 2006!

Haweswater

Gyr Falcons are cool, very cool they live in cold areas like Greenland!

I think they used to kill all types of birds of prey at one time, Peregrines were not only killed on the coast but all over the place for killing grouse also poisons on the land effected them badly.
