I'm assuming that you have never smelled a skunk. When I first came to Canada, I had never smelled one, but the first time I got down wind of a skunk roadkill, I didn't have to be told what it was
Skunk are cute, timid, slow, poorly armed in the tooth and claw department, etc. ... so the good lord, in her infinite wisdom, came up with a brilliant defensive armament.
Come to think of it, if the upper class twits want to chase down small wild critters, they should come over here to the colonies, and chase down and corner a bunch of skunk.
