Daytime television has never exactly set the world alight, it has always been filler material, but give me Auntie Beeb anyday. The BBC, love it or loathe it, set the standard that all others aim for.

'Yeah, but I never listen to BBC radio or watch any of their programmes!'

Maybe not, but the commercial sector has to produce something that will stop you from doing that and keep the quality up to an acceptable level. I'm afraid all arguments against the licence fee always end up being pointed in the same direction - America.

If you think that we're wall-to-wall with adverts at the moment try their abysmal system.
