Re: Newport County match thread.
WOW! In my honest opinion that was the best result and best performance by Stanley in the last two seasons. It could have been 8-0 to be honest. John Doolan’s harsh words recently to the players seems to have had the positive effect and the team showed the required energy and desire right from the kick off! Stanley excelled in all respects tonight: Our passing was accurate and crisp. Pace was evident with Batty, Walton and O’Brien-Marsh leading by example. Ben Woods was selected in his best position. Our defence was solid and at last we seemed to get a bit of luck with the ‘run of the ball’. Stanley scored some super goals tonight but the fourth goal was IMHO the goal of the season…so far! A lovely build up on the right with some slick and accurate passing set up O’Brien-Marsh twenty three or four yards centrally in front of goal and he curled a beautiful left footed shot into the goal in front of an ecstatic Clayton End.
My starting post called for the fans to be the twelfth man tonight and the Clayton End were once again 100% behind the team, with flags, singing, constant chanting but the team played so well in support of each other that they looked like they had twelve players on the pitch throughout the whole match.
Let’s all hope that tonight is the real turning point in our season and that we can continue in the same vein and move up the table to safety.
We loved it tonight…
ON STANLEY ON.
