Virgin claim to have unlimited downloads but I've seen on some forum that they cut your broadband speeds if you download alot.. speeds do seem to drop at certain times of day with virgin.
Most providers say it's unlimited but have a fair usage policy which basically means you get a warning if you are downloading more than they deem fit.

It's more of a whole thing.. theres no such thing.. not on the internet.. not in any walk of life.. theres no such thing as unlimited.. internet providors use the word to entice people and the small print tells the truth... unfortunatly people on messageboards just shout unlimited.. then run round like headless chickens when you pull them up on it :)

Unlimted with limits isn't unlimited :)

testmy.net - speed test and broadband tools

tests your connection.

and no we was'nt on about sky movies :P

That speed test is rubbish, I only got 400Kb/s and I know for a fact that I regularly download large files at 800Kb/s even at my mum which is only 8Mb.

When you can download things at around 1.8Mb/s its pretty easy to reach a large amount of downloads! Luckily Bulldog don't have any caps and don't have any fair useage policies that im aware of, although that might change as our customer base has technically been acquired by tiscali but we're still apart of the fast Bulldog network :)

Dvd's are 4Gb, the 700Mb films you download are compressed versions which are not as high a quality. Heck even the 4Gb dvd ones are compressed, regular dvds are around 9Gb.

Re: Internet Speed

4gig is the full dvdrip, with titles, extra's and menu's. the 700mb files are usually just the film and nothing else. which is what i like, just burn it to disk and watch it with no hassle. cant complain when its free ;)

sky's package says umlimited kipax, but MAY be subject to a fair usage policy depending on your area or how much you abuse. ive used 100gb in a month and my internet has'nt been slowed or capped. simple. try reading everything instead of reading what you want to answer and ignoring the rest.

I think you will find that full HD films are significantly more than 4Gb just for teh film. What, your still watching SD? Surely you have moved onto HD by now :D

Its limited, like it or not, as for downloading films and the like why be so blatent about being a thief???????????????

Re: Internet Speed

omg are you thick.. skys terms and package says its umlimited. BUT is subject to a fare usage policy. tell you what why dont you sue sky for false advertising? like ive explained to you time and time again now how much you use depends on your location and who else uses it. their fare usage is anything over 40gb yes? well in 1 month ive used 100gb alot of companies claim to have unlimited but never back it up, they cap your download and lower your speed yes? well i've never had that happen to me and ive downloaded more than double their fare usage policy. so maybe sky actaulyl live up to their deals? have you got any research to prove sky's is'nt unlimited?

Re: Internet Speed

Think of it this way, why put "fair usage" and "40gb"if it was unlimited.
Unlimited means whoever signs up can download/upload an unlimited amount of stuff - right? so why a fair usage policy, you might be getting more than 40g don't think anyone is disputing that, doesn't mean everyone in Accy will if they sign up does it

Yes...

Skys usage policy states they arn't unlimited when they say they have a fair usage policy.. and I ahvent got a problem with SKY as they do live up to there deals..

Its you at the start of this thread telling people it is unlimited that is wrong.. not SKY .. Sky admit themselves that it's not unlimited and there use of the word is purely advertising..

You on the other hand are telling people it's unlimited when it's not.. Theres a whopping great big clue in this thread as to why it can't be unlimited.. apart from the fact that SKY say it... It doesn't matter if its sky. telewest, asda or the bank of scotland... For the very last time... There is no such thing as unlimited.. Everyhting has limits.. even sky.. even me trying to get you to undertsand unlimited doesn't exist..

You're just bragging now because that's one of my dreams I must do before I kick the bucket.:)

Re: Internet Speed

:D, yes, because wii can (and also because I had been playing Rayman on it and couldn't be bothered to power up teh laptop just to check AW.

A lot of laptops can show HD in 720p mode. You don't need a new tele to watch HD :D

86" screen for cartoons?, (Gets projector out to see how big it measures)

Liam, I'm not thick, It seems I understand the English Language far better than you. Unlimited its not, wake up and smell the limits.
