You might be, when my kids were toddlers we couldn't go down town without visiting it, that in itself meant waiting for everything to happen, so we would look around the shops and maybe spend something until it did.

I never saw the fascination with it when it was first installed I certainly wasn't one of those hanging around until the big finger was on twelve to see it perform, only saw it actually in action once and that was by chance

If the restoration of the clock would mean an increase in footfall and an increase in the spending in the Arndale then let the shops there pay for the restoration from their increase in receipts. There are far more important things that need council (our), money spending on.

Whats it got to do with the Council, they only gave the originall planning permission for the Arndale. Their only involvement now is to collect rates from the owners and occupiers.

Gayle whatshername has offered a free meeting room tomorrow evening at 5.30 at the Civic Theatre so interested people can get together and talk about it.

This thread has been trying to get the clock back since July 2008, and as I see it, no further along the road to getting it back.

So perhaps that says it all really. I like the clock, until the mechanism opens and that band sprung out.

What difference will it make meeting in the Civic Theatre, just more hot air. This has been going on for some years now.
The only persons who can decide are the owners of the Arndale, they are the ones to talk to, and the answer will be MONEY, the income from the Arndale has dropped considerably with shop closures etc. gassin on here or up in Ossy will achieve sod all.

If it is decided to re-install the clock can you assure everyone that there will not be any costs at all to be borne by the council?
Don't forget any approvals that may be needed and possible local HS involvement

cashman 24-01-2013 18:10

Re: Let's Get That Goblin Clock Back, Everyone!!!

Why would the owner have to seek any approval through the council?

It never was worth looking at more than once.
People who think folk will travel into Accy to see it are deluded.

I'm sure there would be large crowds if it was there today. One person looking up at it and 10,000 behind them trying to pick their pockets :)

You might have something there, what about re-siting it at the restored con club when its been polyfillered back to a good condition. Or on top of the Coppice, why does it have to be in the Arndale.

That's because there are more moaners than doers. They like to moan on about how something should be done but expect everyone else to do it while they sit behind their keyboards moaning about something else.

I feel for Gayle because at least she tried to do something about this allegedly "hugely important piece of our heritage" that soo many folk have been happily banging on about about yet none could be bothered to show up for the meeting.
I don't like the damn thing, I had to tolerate it every day for 12 years, I don't give a stuff about it but folk who nail their colours to the mast should show up. www.whingingandlazy.com
