Still don't think you are correct, think the 'photographer' may have been taking it from Grange Lane, yeh, yeh know that Jeff said that, but the title isn't quite correct then. Doesn't look like a photograph though .. just a sketch ?

There was a Grange Mill showing on maps ... what was that ?

Hi Snakehead arguing again,
Which map are you looking at, going down Grange lane starting from the South side of Nuttall St, (formerly Woodnook Lane) there was Sykes Mill, Perseverance Mill, Iron Works, Lower Grange Mill and Wellington Mill, then you in Church St.
Hargreaves Plumbers Merchants were in Lower Grange Mill.
Sup less, see more and learn a lot, leave thi wheels at whum and use thi feet an thi een, thal bi surprised at what thur is under thi noas when tha nod lukin at car bonnet.

You two ganging up on me now.. :dummy2:

All I was saying is that the title of the photo/sketch belies it showing Grange Lane.

See map below .. would have to be a view from the purple blob, so Grange Lane would not be captured on the picture.

Was merely asking what Grange Mill was (pink blob), and could the chimney possibly belong to that ???

No wonder I now need a bacardi .. :p

Re: Where was this chimney ?

I don't think it is a photo, I think it,s more likely a sketch. There is no church where the steeple is and no chimney where it appears to be. Your looking straight up Black Abby St with Grange Lane heading out on the right. Where the steeple is would be looking in the direction of Plantation St and the chimney somewhere in the middle of Birtwistle St. I think the artist thought, "This,l gi um sumat to think of int future".??

Re: Where was this chimney ?

An interesting thought is that, whoever did the picture, if he had looked back over his left shoulder he would see St James Church and over his right shoulder the chimney at Broad Oak Mill on Cotton St.

Who would dare to gang up on you.
There are a lot on here who can't recognise whats a picture, where it was taken from, and think because they can't see today it must be wrong.
Attached is a composite I did back in 1989, Oak St Congis, New Jerusalem, and the chimney have gone, but a lot of other buildings are still recognisable.
