V impressive display - and that's just the ladies' hats! No seriously, I have been involved in this sort of thing myself and this looks good. If I were closer I would be there with you -I love it. Well done.

Atarah can you volunteer if you can only do say a couple of hours and not set times

Atarah 29-11-2013 17:16

Re: Accrington should have a museum

To esteemedjuju

Too right you can volunteer and of course you say WHEN you are free. We really need more interested volunteers, so that we can open for more days than we did in the Market Hall. At the moment, we don't think we will try to open Wednesdays. We are getting a rota going, so if you could only give a few hours "whenever", that would be really helpful.
Hope to see you down there! :-)

Thanks a lot Susie. It really is looking good, we are all "proper proud" and if ever you come to Accrington, do pop round. Let me know when if you ever do, and I will try and be there on that day.

Thanks again.

You're welcome, I know how much hard work has to go into a project like this. And Shillelagh's photos really do it justice. Well done Jen. Hope the press were there too.

Re: Accrington should have a museum

Hi, yep the press came round for an interview on Wednesday, but any photos of the opening event, which was on a Thursday, wont be in the Observer until next week of course.

It's great to see the museum in its Arndale location and hopefully lots of people are learning about our history. Lovely to see my Gran's stuff in there and my Dad's old ready reckoner on display, which was used for calculating wages back in the days when we had farthings!

Was gonna pop in again,but twas closed today.

Re: Accrington should have a museum

Hi Cashman, yep, we shut shop for this year last Friday, although we had the Museum in the Market open last Saturday. We open again after the hols on Friday 3rd 2014 and then, from Mon 6th onwards, we are back to normal, all staff back from either hols or sickness. We have put two signs up by the Arndale premises, telling folk of our New Year opening time.

Make sure you pop in again please! :-) Your pal Pixie came in Friday.

Am just home from going to see War Horse at The Lowry, utterly amazing!

Hi Sam, hasn't been for a few Saturdays due to Xmas holidays, sickness, busy time of year for folk etc. etc. Hopefully "service will be resumed" in the New Year. (The Market unit was opened last Saturday).

Good publicity, looks good. On again tonight in BBC1 Northern News after 6-30

Atarah 05-02-2014 15:48

Re: Accrington should have a museum

Thanks for that Gordon, you beat me to it. Have only just got home so couldn't put details up any earlier. We heard off someone they had seen the short "live" version, and they too said it was good publicity.

Bob Dobson 05-02-2014 16:54

Re: Accrington should have a museum

Half an hour to go. I am trembling with anticipation . Saw the short version - Bernard Scully did well. I hope it brings in some volunteers , some visitors and some dosh.

Excellent bit of publicity-about 2 minutes. It looks well. Was that you, Atarah? If I lived nearer I'd be volunteering right away. Congratulations to all involved.

The presenters didn't know what a Ewbank was and assumed the whole of the Empire State Building must be built of 'a lot of bricks'. Just shows - if you're not from Accy you know nowt!

Atarah 05-02-2014 19:42

Re: Accrington should have a museum

No, I wasn't anywhere in sight. The crew had been around for hours and hours, when they finally shown it on telly, it was only a really short version. Good fun, but smashing publicity.

Anyone on here who is local, do pop in to see us.

Atarah 07-02-2014 06:27

You need to change some of the meta tags on your webpage, at the moment they are

Quote:

<title>hyndburn heritage museum homr</title>
<meta property="og:title" content="hyndburn heritage museum homr"/>
<meta property="og:site_name" content="hyndburn heritage museum homr"/>
Which is why the link in your post looks the way it does

You may also wish to change this one

Quote:

<meta property="og:image" content="http://static.wixstatic.com/media/a58f73_29138fbbd6384a26b51468b089b68314.jpg"/>
To show the main picture on your website home page. At the moment it is a picture of the railway arches so if you post a link to your site on facebook the picture you will see witll be the arches and not the museum.

Thank you Neil for your kind comments, but, .... haven't a CLUE what you are talking about :-)
When I click on the link, it takes me directly to our Museum website, so, I am confused.com??????

Re: Accrington should have a museum

In your post above where you posted the link, the words of the link are "hyndburn heritage museum homr" which looks naff with no capitals and home spelt homr. So I looked at the metadata on your webpage and made the suggestions in my post. Just mention it to whoever created your webpage.

:o Ooops, that was my fault Neil. I created the site. Initially I didn't have a museum photo - hence the temporary viaduct which I altered but being a forgetful sort of a person I had completely forgotten the hasty title and typo which were crying out to be corrected.

Any other anomalies you spot please feel free to point them out. I more than welcome constructive criticism. It's very much a work in progress.

I am usually rushing doing such things and am also pleased when someone points out something I have missed.
