On T'telly tonight...
Some time ago I started a thread on here about the old silent film found in Blacburn and in the process of being restored. Unfortunatly, I can't find the thread, but anyway, the first of three programmes is to be shown for an hour on BBC2 tonight, 9pm. I've already seen some exerts - there is 13 hours of film altogeather - so I don't know what the BBC have put togeather; however, with luck you'll see some good moving piccys of Accy 100years ago. Look out for the tram bit, if its shown.

Re: On T'telly tonight...
There was some info on the north west news tonight...... they said that there was over 28 hours of film......some of it from 1901......it showed kids taking dinners to their parents who worked in the Mills..... but I think that was Oldham, there was some of Morecambe Bay and some of Manchester..... but one of the programs is on BBC 2 at 9pm tonight......it will certainly be worth a look.

Re: On T'telly tonight...
Hats off to Sagar Mitchell and James Kenyon, of Blackburn.
To quote from one of the links below :- 'It is the film equivalent of the discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb - a century ago, two entrepreneurs toured Britain capturing working-class life on camera.' This stuff pre-dates silent movies. All scratches have been removed and people move at the right speed. Next showing BBC2 Friday 21 Jan 9 p.m. What is all the fuss about ? Click below for the in depth information. With luck you may be able to obtain a copy on DVD in the future even if you do not live in the UK. http://film.guardian.co.uk/features/...384840,00.html http://www.thisislancashire.co.uk/la...k/300103b.html |

Re: On T'telly tonight...
They showed a clip on the news over here, they said there was 26 hrs of film restored. Hope I can get it on DVD. My dad is trying to get me a copy of Garth Dawsons book. Also a book by Marg ???? cant think of her last name, she used to run the Loadstar in Ribchester, he says she has a regular colum in the Teleghraph and has nightclubs now at age 75 +.

Re: On T'telly tonight...
Margot Grimshaw a woman with a very "colourful" past, who has now set herself up as the moral voice of the community. A creature with little taste and less discretion. What she does not remember she makes up. I would give this one a wide berth if I were you.
