On T'telly tonight...

Some time ago I started a thread on here about the old silent film found in Blacburn and in the process of being restored. Unfortunatly, I can't find the thread, but anyway, the first of three programmes is to be shown for an hour on BBC2 tonight, 9pm. I've already seen some exerts - there is 13 hours of film altogeather - so I don't know what the BBC have put togeather; however, with luck you'll see some good moving piccys of Accy 100years ago. Look out for the tram bit, if its shown.

There was some info on the north west news tonight...... they said that there was over 28 hours of film......some of it from 1901......it showed kids taking dinners to their parents who worked in the Mills..... but I think that was Oldham, there was some of Morecambe Bay and some of Manchester..... but one of the programs is on BBC 2 at 9pm tonight......it will certainly be worth a look.

What a pity we've not been here for a couple of days and only just got home. I'd like to have seen that.

Re: On T'telly tonight...

Hats off to Sagar Mitchell and James Kenyon, of Blackburn.

To quote from one of the links below :-

'It is the film equivalent of the discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb - a
century ago, two entrepreneurs toured Britain capturing working-class life
on camera.'

This stuff pre-dates silent movies. All scratches have been removed and people move at the right speed.

Next showing BBC2 Friday 21 Jan 9 p.m.

What is all the fuss about ? Click below for the in depth information.
With luck you may be able to obtain a copy on DVD in the future even if you do not live in the UK.

I watched it, absolutely fascinating. I just love out like that never seen so many people finishing work. Anyone see the tram with the destination name “Accrington” on it. I will defiantly be watching it next Friday.
