Puzzle 21
1 Attachment(s)
Here is a good one. Where do you think this one is? You may be surprised. It might not look it in the picture but the water was crystal clear.
20,000 Ackers for the person who comes up with the following:- A, the name of the stream. B, the location of the tunnel in the pic. |
Re: Puzzle 21
Bottom of Oak Street. Is it Woodnook Water? Can't be the Stink can it? I'm never sure which bit of what is which because most of the town's rivers and brooks are hidden.

Re: Puzzle 21
The River Hyndburn exiting the conduit over the other side of the canal at Church
|
Re: Puzzle 21
First it's Oak Hill Park, then it's Oak Street. What's going on?
Oh, by the way, no. |
Re: Puzzle 21
Tis not at Church either Doug.

|
Re: Puzzle 21
Do you want to give me the proper name for "River Stink" Willow?
|
Re: Puzzle 21
River Hyndburn
|
Re: Puzzle 21
Nit picking A-b? :p
I was offline then doing a bit of needlework. |
Re: Puzzle 21
No, not nit-picking, it's just that there are several streams which progress through our lovely town and I want to be clear that you have named the correct one. As you observed earlier, it can be confusing trying to decide which one is which. And the object of the competition is to bring into the minds of the general readership facts about our lovely town of which they might not have been previously aware, in a caring and ethnically diverse way, with full access for the disabled and an awareness of IMS issues.:D

Re: Puzzle 21
Well Doug has named it for you so I suppose he gets the Ackers. I did mean the Hyndburn although I still agree that it's difficult to know which bit goes where when short lengths of water pop up in different locations. If it turns out that bit isn't the Hyndburn I'll be rather surprised and I wasn't actually aware that any of the Borough's other little trickles and tributaries had been honoured with the designation "River Stink"
|
Re: Puzzle 21
This is what I thought, this little trickle is not the Hyndburn.
|
Re: Puzzle 21
OOoooh now I'm being educated because if it's where I think it is then I always thought it was. I'm off to get my dowsing rods now and find out what it connects to. :blink8:

Re: Puzzle 21
Tinker Brook or is White Ash Brook?
|
Re: Puzzle 21
is it Tinker brook Ossy,The bridge on Heys Lane/stonebridge Lane??
|
Re: Puzzle 21
No, not Tinker Brook neither is it White Ash Brook.
|
Re: Puzzle 21
Then it must be Jackhouse Brook?
|
Re: Puzzle 21
or, is it Woodnook Water I've a feeling.....
|
Re: Puzzle 21
Now this puts me in a quandry. Willow has the two parts of the answer right but has not connected them and Doug has one part of the answer right... What would you do Solomon?
|
Re: Puzzle 21
Oh sod it! it's only Virtual Money. Willow and Doug are both Winners! Hooray!
It is Woodnook Water entering the culvert which runs under Paradise Street taken from the site of the former Accrington Baths. |

Re: Puzzle 21
Oh lol I said Woodnook Water early on when I thought it was elsewhere! I really must get on top of all this water under Accy. My dowsing rods never came out because I had an appointment elsewhere which I've only just returned from and thankee kindy A-b for the ackers. :)
|
Re: Puzzle 21
Willow, Why would you need dowsing rods to find Wooknock Water :)
|
Re: Puzzle 21
It disappears underground elsewhere as does the Hyndburn.I'd love to know exactly which what goes where and how.
|
Re: Puzzle 21
A quick and easy way to have a look at what runs where is to have a look at the Mario site...
http://mario.lancashire.gov.uk/ Once you have zoomed into the required part turn on the historic maps and choose the transparent one which will show you the 1845 map on top of the current map it's a bit skewed but accurate enough for most purposes. |
Re: Puzzle 21
Right, now that is sorted out, what about the other puzzle pics????
