I recieved some vouchers from Tesco in the post, you can use 1 a week for the next 4 weeks. When you spend £30 or more in store you get £10 off. I also heard though if you take these to Asda then they will accept them.
I will be taking mine to the Asda I think as its alot quieter and I prefer to shop there!! :D

I was in my local Tesco's earlier on this afternoon and noticed that various prepacked meat cuts - fillet & ribeye steak, leg of lamb - were labelled 'Security tagged - deactivated on checkout'. I assume there is a similar system in the new Accy store.

Does anyone know what this means? If the tag is not deactivated, is there some sort of chemical released into the meat when opened to make it inedible. Not that it bothers me - I get my meat from the local butchers.

I've not seen 'owt like this before.

It's the same in Asda, suppose it's a sign of the times. Some of the meat is so expensive now people were probably stealing it to sell on. :D

only wish it did work like this with say arsenic being the chemical of choice... might help teh prison population crisis....

Having said that no one's ever listened to my other suggestion re prison crowding.

It was good enough to outsource our jobs to India, why not outsource our prison service. I reckon 6 months in a calcutta hell hole might just reset some criminals lack of concern for going back.

Well I called in again today in order to buy a present that I had spotted on Monday when I did the main shop.
Got off to a bad start and things only got worse.:(

On entering the store a young lady asked If I wanted a £5 off voucher for the clothing Dept.I looked her up and down and then replied "What are you trying to say"
There was no answer just a blank expression so I proceeded to the shelf were I had seen the item earlier, The price had increased by £10.

I left and went down the Asda and bought the same gift using the Tesco voucher for £30 less.:D:D

So Tesco lost out in three ways - No sale - Unhappy customer and they paid for the printing and postage of the vouchers.

Ah well not to worry.

We called in today for the first time and it was OK until we decided to have a brew on the way out, the "Restaurant" was something like an episode of Fawlty Towers and by the way the trolley brakes don't work on the moving walkway which is handy

Angry Tesco customers have swamped the store’s website and call centres with complaints over the way a Christmas loyalty card promotion was handled.

The Big Christmas Exchange deal offered to double the value of points and vouchers held on the Clubcards used by millions of customers.

Customers had until Sunday to claim the double-value vouchers offering big savings on products such as toys, clothes, champagne and the new Samsung Galaxy tablet computer.

Tesco Mez. To be honest Cashy there appears to be mor dumbos than i ever imagined.
Think they must have been told what it used to be like, in the days when no shops were open over holiday periods. When you used to have to think ok, 4 days no shops have to get enough bread milk and perishables. Not the same now but some seem to think it is. And i'm not even that old.

seems Tesco are "mothballing" some of their stores in the L.A./Southern California area. there was some talk about them moving into the San Francisco/Bay Area , the buisness plan was for them to open stores in 'dis-advantaged' inner city areas which the other supermarket chains avoid , got them a lot of good press about how the residents of these areas would now have fresh healthy food options no mention of the tax breaks the cities would be giving them. "After a net operating loss of $151 million they hope to break into profitability in 1012/13"

USA - Tesco Mothball 11 stores

Although for my first shop I was charged incorrectly by about 4 quid. A few of the offers hadnt processed on the till. But I couldnt be bovd to go back all new stores will have teething problems.

I think its well worth double checking your receipts more than ever these days, there are so many offers on, with quite often new & old prices left on display together, if someone repricing items on shelves is disturbed by a customer asking for help on an unrelated issue, it would be easy to make a mistake on whats been repriced & what hasn't. There were two people who had been overcharged whilst i was there last week, one woman where a £24.99 bottle of Champers hadn't been discounted on her receipt to £19.99 as it said on the shelves!

That's naughty linds send stuff out with same day dates on, probably one of the drawbacks of shopping on line though, but it doesn't make it right and if repeated will only lose them customers in the long run

Went in Tesco's again today and must say marvelous. Hardly a soul about, nice and peaceful no dodging trolleys or unrully brats. It's almost one to one customer and staff wise.
Think something will have to give soon can't be very cost effective at the moment, i can see some thinning down of staff before much longer.

It could always be turned into the new bus station their always on about, and car park will come in handy for both bus and rail.
I think Tesco backed their lorry intut wrong car park when they came to Accy.
450 jobs, I don't think they've had 450 customers, I've heard a few complaints about price differences between display and till, people being overcharged, a lot of their prices are a lot higher tha Asda or Aldi, they lost my custom after 1 visit.

I've noticed more & more Supermarkets are keeping some same day stuff on their shelves...at normal prices...lately Jaysay, they always used to reduce the price, even M&S are guilty of this!

Just a shame we can't have a decent supermarket.

Just wondered if anyone else recieved the vouchers for TESCO again in the post today?

Same as last time spend £30 and get a tenner off for the next 4wks, looks like TESCO are a bit desperate for customers!!!

I will be spending mine at ASDA again!!! :D

Have received the vouchers too, but the vouchers i have are for £6 off when spending £30. Same as you, if Asda are taking them, i'll be spending them there.

Don't know why mines differant, they probably think i've plenty of money and don't need as much off (i wish). Suppose though if they get enough people asking about the money off vouchers for tesco, they might change their mind and start accepting them. So i suppose we all need to ask.

I have just rung ASDA and spoke to a nice young man,

Me : Hiya are you taking the Tesco Vouchers this time that have been posted?

Him: Not this time, we only did the last ones as it was coming upto Christmas.

Me: But I dont like Tesco's!!

Him: Niether do I, I also recieved some vouchers threw the post this morning and asked as soon as I got to work but they told me no aswell.

So there you go, off to Tesco I suppose in the morning.

I'll ring as well, even though i know what the answer will be, but it might still be worth nagging. Will keep hold of them anyway in case i go to Tesco, might have a look at the clothes.

Not sure if they could cope with 2 customers at the same time just now, they would think there's a sudden rush of customers

Lets hope when the place closes they do it before May then we can bring it up in local elections about being sold down the river for a white elephant building

I am committed to using Ocado deliveries now.
The food quality and the service are far better than the other three.
I don't mind paying a bit more to get the best tasting stuff, and many of their prices have been 'Tesco price matched'.
Minimum order amount is now reduced from £70 to £40 because I have paid up front for a year of deliveries - £69.99 - which works out at £1.34 a week delivery charge.

Re: TESCO - new site in Accrington.

When it comes to freebies, Ocado does it for me - I got a free gift of pomegranate juice with my last order, and just got mail with a voucher for a free bottle of wine with the next.
These free gifts have been given careful thought - the wine I get is the type I normally buy, and I do buy 'obscure' juices.

I have used the term 'freebie' when talking about other supermarkets and meant 'mistakes' - these from Ocado are gifts (they have never made a mistake)

What are Tesco going to do when Morrisons opens in Accy next month? i prefer Morrisons over Tesco myself even though Tesco is nearer for me, their meat is dead cheap and they have a wider range of things to choose from

Re: TESCO - new site in Accrington.

Went in last night about 19:00 to spend me voucher..............it were dead!!

There were about 10 people in and a bunch of kids sat on the benches at the entrance just keeping warm I think!

Did my shoping in about 20 mins and as I came to leave with my little trolly found out that the escalater going down had stopped working. Dumped my trolly and got the other half to carry my bags to the car!!;)

The one good thing is that it is quiet enough to do your shopping quite quickly but that is the only good thing. Rubbish choice of food and alot more expensive than the ASDA but you cant turn your nose up to £10 worth of free shopping.

I have £10 vouchers waiting for my use at both Asda and Tesco online shopping sites - I am not tempted to use them.

I would rather pay more and eat better stuff.
I know that many people would do the same if only their finances weren't stretched to the limit - sad times.

heth 08-02-2011 08:59

Re: TESCO - new site in Accrington.

Yep it is sad Margaret, that is the only reason I am going to Tesco is to spend my voucher.

I wish ASDA were taking the vouchers as I would get alot more stuff there.

It will be used as a storage depot for bruised egos.

Should just about be big enough.

It's a One Stop Store, are they owned by Tesco ?

Tealeaf 11-02-2011 13:28

Re: TESCO - new site in Accrington.

Tesco Metro, Tesco Express, Tesco Extra, Tesco Homeplus, One Stop....all Tesco. The only thing that differentiates them is the prices they charge.

I've just looked back through this thread and it would appear that no one seemed aware of this One Stop store. What is going on in Accy for this to be missed?
