Just look what they have done to the bottom block of Burnley Road - it looks lovely! (the next block higher up is also being "done up")

What I meant to add, and missed off, was, how come they didnt improve the property along Blackburn Road. All those fab Victorian houses, some with bay windows, (and lovely, large rooms) could have just looked just as good!!!!

That is a huge improvement.

There are lots of properties in the borough that could be improved and made into good family homes......but they are torn down and new buiolds are put in their place.....and these are not in keeping with the surrounding properties. It is very sad.

Do you need planning permission to stick those horrible little porches on?

The row does look really good now.

I love old terraced houses which is why we live in one but lots of people want modern, efficient, cheap to heat shoe boxes with a garden now. I don't blame them either. We used to live in one and it was a lot cheaper to heat than ours now with less maintenance issues and cost.

I love our stone built terraced houses too, and the ones in the photos do look great.

I'm pretty sure you don't need permission for a porch, because they fall within the limits of how much you can extend a property without the need for planning permission.

They do help to insulate homes, but purely from an aesthetic point of view I wouldn't have one.

The builders seem to have lost heart with the top few properties on the next block up. The gardens have a lot of earth behind the front wall and haven't been touched yet - hope they don't leave them untouched.

So why can't they do the same to Woodnook?

That is a really good question.
The answer will probably be.......the money has been spent.

Why indeed Steve, seems that some areas of Hyndburn are being given the star treatment whilst others are being completely ignored. Wonder why that is:mad:

It is a crying shame. The area has gone steadily downhill over the years...and just when the people who live there thought they had a chance of being spruced up, the rug is pulled from under them because the funds are no longer there.
I am sure the people of Woodnook feel very let down by the powers that be.
