Cricket

I'm almost, but not quite, sure I can remember the Indian cricketer, Polly Umrigar, playing for Church and Oswaldtwistle Cricket Club in about 1953. I used to go to the ground in West End, sometimes, to watch my next-door neighbour play and to watch them practising at "nets" in the evenings. There was a tall Indian guy who was their "pro", can anyone confirm it was him?

Re: Cricket

I have just checked the Church Cricket Club website http://www.churchcc.co.uk and it says P R Umrigar was the pro in 1953 and 1954

Re: Cricket

Thanks for that. I've won my argument with a cricketing colleague.

Re: Cricket

Why don't you have another bet that Sir Gary Sobers once turned out for Church?

In fact, make it a double...that Sobers turned out for Church & that Church have been further in the FA cup than Stanley.
