Re: help

I've never known weight gain to be a known side effect of sterilisation. Margaret Pilkington will know for certain. All they do with a sterilisation during Caesarian is put a clip on each fallopian tube. They don't remove anything or do anything to alter your hormone levels in any way, so therefore weight gain should not be a side effect. I know plenty of people who have been sterilised in this way and not gained weight because there is no medical reason to. Like I said, Margaret will know, try sending her a pm.:D I have also looked after plenty of people who have become pregnant after sterilisation, although they do tell you that there is a small failure rate prior to the op.

Good luck getting an appointment, I hope that they get to the bottom of your problem soon. Let us know how you get on.

Weight gain is not a side effect of sterilisation. It may just be a side effect of the craving for pudding and custard.
And lettie I don't want to quibble with your statistics but we always told our ladies that there was a 1 in 300 chance of failure......regardless of how the operation is done or who does the operation.
I would think that if the last period was 31st of March it would be rather early to be feeling a baby move.......13 weeks......I know you have previous pregnancies, that does sometimes make a difference in when you feel the baby move.
You really need a BetaHcg blood test.

Re: help

I have looked after a FEW women who have unfortunately become pregnant after sterilization.......but I have to say it wasn't as many as the statistics predict.
One lady had been sterilized for over 10 years when she found herself pregnant......it all turned out happily though as she had a new partner who had no children.

Good grief, is the failure rate as high as 1 in 300..... They still tell us at uni that it's 1 in 1000. I have known loads who have got pregnant after sterilisation and go on to deliver. The thing that most of them have in common is that they are sterilised either at C section or immediately post partum instead of waiting a couple of months. The reasons for this are either they would be pregnant again within a few weeks of having their baby or they don't wish their family (sometimes including partner) to know they are being sterilised.

One lass who I looked after a few years ago got pregnant after both herself and her partner had been sterilised. Unlucky or what!!!! :D

Yep, Lettie so it is about 3 in a thousand..........I have to say that I had not nursed that many......maybe 10 in 25 years.
I know that one consultant used to press women into sterilisation 48hours after delivery......he has now retired.
I don't think post partum ops are such a good idea.......I think that you need time to get your non-pregnant brain cells working again before you make such a drastic decision.

I know that we did lots and lots of reversals....... which I personally felt was a waste of resources......plus there was the additional risk after reversal of ectopic pregnancy.

Re: help

Granny.....all women sign a form to say that they understand that there is a failure rate.....so if it fails, then it is tough titties......definitely no cash claims.

Re: help

I'm afraid I can't be more help because I've never been sterilised, but your doctor doesn't sound very helpful at all. You are supposed to be entitled to a second opinion aren't you? Have you asked for one? I would be doing.
