Re: Countryside,Seaside or backside?
I get asked at work quite often why I live so far away from work(knutsford) and one of the biggest reasons I give is that here we are 2 minutes from countryside, 40 mins from the seaside, less than an hours from teh lakes, within 30 mins I can be shopping in Manchester, preston, blackburn, burnley, bury, Accrington, clitheroe, rawtenstall etc. House prices are half what they are in Knutty/Alty(although my council tax is HIGHER!!!!).
Now I love riding my bike through the trough/ibble valley, but I also enjoy a walk on the prom at the seaside. Yet coming home from work there is nothing nicer than sitting in the garden with a glass of something cool listening to teh birds, smelling the flowers and watching the squirrels playing. So all three for me please Staggers. |

Re: Countryside,Seaside or backside?
Blackpool beaches have passed this year i heard so no pooh there.
Atherstone is in a sim location to accy aprt from the see is 2 hours away, shame but then i can go to the sea that way, or that way or the other way to skeggy. I don't like living in a city, i love to be able to get out. I love a walk around the country side, along the canal, or even a park. today i went to ramsbottom and whitaker park rawtenstall taking photo's, monday was stubby lee and moorelands park bacup. |
Re: Countryside,Seaside or backside?

Re: Countryside,Seaside or backside?
I don't think you can beat heading for the hills. At this time of year you can walk at lower levels in the lakes and just about get everything you need to stimulate mind, body and soul. The brave might what to push a little harder and head for higher ground and believe me it will do you better than any can of Red Bull.
Lose ends at the weekend can be tide up with a visit to the Interlink and an afternoon watching Stanley, even if football isn’t your bag you’d be surprised how it gets a grip of you when they about to stick one in. Sedately trips on water can be a nightmare at this time of year lakes, rivers and canals tend to run thought open exposed ground so the wind and bitter cold can drive right up your souwester. Old Churches, Abbeys, castles and prehistoric sites can be wonderful experience at this time of year, not many people around to bug you, if you wrap up warm and eat well on the day nothing will bother you. |
Re: Countryside,Seaside or backside?
at the min im on my ar$e because i got a dodgy knee....but i gotta admit you cant beat a bit of camping at the wkends and a spot of fishing ...with a nice crate at the side of you ......
heres where we have started to go ......EXCELLENT highly recomended http://www.wyresidelakes.co.uk/compo...page/Itemid,1/ |

We're lucky here in that it's about the nicest bit of the midlands. I can go up heartshill heyes and look out over the bosworth battle fields and across the flats of leicestershire. We've also got a river and a canal. I think we're going to put a sculpture trail along part of the canal, but not sure . |
Re: Countryside,Seaside or backside?

ok .. guess you warming up to challenge me .. all this has been on business, the question was spare time, and yes, UK is wonderful, seen some fantastic places in my travels. Just my age I guess... after juggling with family, job, etc., for all those years like now to 'laze' at weekends. When I force myself to get out must admit do enjoy it. So everybody's situation is different, you see. Just some answers have a 'smug' ring to them, and can't resist 'poking fun' now and then. Have I anticipated the answer to your question? Or a clever twist to backside like on your backside in a car ? do explain. |
Re: Countryside,Seaside or backside?
guess thats the downfall of being behind a wheel katex,i wasnt getting at you i was asking you?i have said that lancashire must be one of the best scenery places in the country.:engsmil: i am not a motorway driver as you miss too much!but you will have to use them to get from a-b.i go out when i can to get lost!havent achieved it yet after going down roads that havent been used in years ,opening farm gates .....etc

Re: Countryside,Seaside or backside?
I enjoy the sea but love the countryside. I enjoy the lakes and I also love yorkshire. Gone for loads of walks during my 31 years especially playing hide and seek in the woodlands ;), I also like formby as you av your woodland and the sea and sand.
Going camping this year with family really looking forward.:) |
Re: Countryside,Seaside or backside?
I love peace and quiet and nature so it's countryside all the way for me, I'm not a great lover of the seaside nor am I a great lover of wasting time by staying in bed after 07:00.
In the words of John Bon Jovi "I'll sleep when I'm dead". |

sea side always......... this picture was taken at Fleetwood on a very cold day even the sand was frozen! but we took the kids wrapped up and really enjoyed the walk.:)

Re: Countryside,Seaside or backside?
I love the seaside. Not necessarily seaside resorts but the coast where the waves come crashing in against rocks, or gently washing in across a pebble beach or sand. I love the west coast of Ireland but I'll settle for Morecambe Bay and that's close enough to my second favourite lakes and mountains.

Re: Countryside,Seaside or backside?
We do like to go to the countryside alot, trough of bowland, the lakes, becon fell but i have to say that i prefere the beach when its quiet and the countryside when the beach is busy.

Re: Countryside,Seaside or backside?
Last one looks like trough of bowland. Reading the road from the picture I'd normally be changing up into 3rd at about 75 at that point. :)
I agree that that is exactly the sort of road I love riding. Lovely scenery and sod all traffic and NO Speed Cameras :) |
Re: Countryside,Seaside or backside?
thats the beauty of an automatic and a four litre engine.....he....hee yes your right ian its comming through the trough,
The thing is when garinda, tinks, and slinky are out for a walk......lol they could do some serious damage hitting one of them......:D any guesses on the other two? thought they where the easy ones! |
Re: Countryside,Seaside or backside?
Second one I think is Entwistle Res? I reckon you can just see where the road goes over the res on its way up to teh Strawberry Duck(Good Pub!)
|
Re: Countryside,Seaside or backside?

|
Re: Countryside,Seaside or backside?
I've spent many a happy hour riding teh ribble valley as well, I did rather scare myself one day though (FAR too fast and 3ft up in the air on the way up to Ribblehead viaduct are not conducive to clean underwear :) )
|
Re: Countryside,Seaside or backside?
going to get a map out (very rare) i only go out in the country to get lost :D never do but found some amazing roads, you dont see anyone on them for ages its brill, the only other traffic are the jets from over yorkshire training! and i am a bit too fast for them.......
|
Re: Countryside,Seaside or backside?
I know what you mean though. If I come across a road I don't know I purposely go down it to see what its like and where it goes.
You can't get lost while you have fuel in the tank :) |

Re: Countryside,Seaside or backside?
I love Lancashire, it has some of the most beautiful country in England, and I love getting out in it when I can. Love the sea, but sailing used to be my thing. Over on your ear, scudding along, setting the Decca for the next turn, tacking under sail when the engine won't work (long story). Yes it can be freezing cold (at least three layers under the oilskins) but once you moor up and turn on the heater and pour the scotch, you appreciate it all the more for the freezing bits.
London can be great, though - especially fine Sunday mornings, when there are few people around. I'm always willing to show people round! |
Re: Countryside,Seaside or backside?
I hate london, the nice bits are nice but the nasty bits cancel them out. As i've said wales, the lakes, lancashire, derbyshire dales, most of yorkshire. new forest is nice. it's nice round here but not the nicest by far, but also far from the worst. national forest is starting to take shape now, in the next twenty years it will be a lot better though.
