Re: Thyroid Groups
People with hypothyroidism are also more at risk from diabetes, glaucoma & pernicious anaemia.
Undetected it can lead to severe "women's problems" which lead to hysterectomy, as in my case. Would seem mine had been underactive to some extent for several years. Only when the conditon became extremely severe, was any notice taken. |

Re: Thyroid Groups
I would be interested in a Thyroid group as I had most of my Thyroid removed and haven't been right since. :P

Re: Thyroid Groups
What we need is someone with organisational skills to get one going.
How long since, lottie? How much meds? Get much support from your doctor? I think I'll check out the BTF site and see if I can contact anyone who has set one of these up, actually. |
Re: Thyroid Groups

Re: Thyroid Groups
The information I put in comes from Doctors too!!
Suggest you do a search on the net and read through all sites that discuss underactive thyroid or hypothyroidism (not hyperthyroidism) (The ones by doctors). Your GP most probably isn't specialised, most of the docs that write these articles are. Also try finding a book in the library on thyroid problems. Note that I said about certain foods being BEST AVOIDED. (Which I have now emphasised in capitals.) It's up to you what you do. All I know is that since I have been following certain ideas, I have felt a whole lot better, all though still far from 100%. the fact that people aren't 100% after diagnosis and being stabilised on medication seems to me to speak for itself There is also an ongoing debate about thyroid tests and levels at the mo. If you are within a certain range you are deemed OK. But a lot of sources are not happy with this. Still boils down to lack of info doesn't it? |
Re: Thyroid Groups
YOU ARE RIGHT when asked about the food intake THEY THE NURSESS SAID ONLY WHAT WAS IN THE NIMBS BOOK DOES NOT GIVE ANY DETAILS OF FOODS ?
|
Re: Thyroid Groups
Not sure what you mean there Tommy. Which nurses and what's the Nimbs book?
|
Re: Thyroid Groups
peelhouse medical book
|
Re: Thyroid Groups
So what is in the NIMBS book? Is this a nurses handbook?
All I can say to you Tommey is get all the information you can, from whatever source you can. Look up every reference you can find on the Net that is written by a thyroid specialist. Read every book you can find in the library about hypothyroidism, written by a thyroid specialist. Make some educated choices! The fact that Doctors will argue between themselves over this matter says enough for me. |
Re: Thyroid Groups
you r right will look up web see what i can find ;D
