Ossy Palladium

Does anyone know what they doing with it yet?:( another winter is coming so that means its gonna look worse than ever, its a eye sore and needs something doing to it.
I say knock it down and put a bloody decent shop there,:p :Banane20:

Can’t much left of your heritage over there…….why not do something nice like reuse the existing building….:)

Re: Ossy Palladium

Apparently it has been purchased recently. I don't know what their plans are.

If it was restored to being a cinema, that would be fantastic, but I doubt that'll happen.

panther 27-10-2006 19:04

Re: Ossy Palladium

the state its in, it would be cheaper to knock it down, its falling to bits!!

WillowTheWhisp 27-10-2006 19:08

Re: Ossy Palladium

Please not another empty shop! If it has been purchased then presumably the new owners must have plans. Nobody would buy it to do nothing with it. A cinema seems unlikely with the Vue just down the road in Accrington.

Re: Ossy Palladium

Rumour is that Ossy Mills had put in an offer to purchase it to turn into a hotel - but that is just speculation. I don't even know if they have bought it.

Someone I know phoned up the estate agents and asked if it was for sale and was told that the owners had taken it off the market - so what's happened is anybody's guess!

panther 27-10-2006 19:15

Re: Ossy Palladium

what do you mean another empty shop? that area badly needs a decent shop like spar, so ppl like me dont have to walk miles to get a loaf of bread!

WillowTheWhisp 27-10-2006 19:19

Re: Ossy Palladium

The trouble is that shops where you want them tend not to survive because they have to charge more than the big supermarkets and most people would rather go to Asda for a cheaper one. We had a brilliant baker's shop in Willows Lane but he couldn't compete with cheap mass produced loaves. There used to be a Spar in Carnforth but that closed down in face of the competition from Tesco.

Nah, they were pipped at the post with a guy who lives in Ossie, he also bought the Commercial and the burnt out the shops opposite .. no idea what plans he has for them though.

Ossy General Store, in the old Chimes restaurant, sells everything from bread to tooth picks, and the guys that own it are are great. They even gave me a box of chocolates at Christmas, which was very gratefully received from these hard working, friendly Muslims, and they pack your bags too, which they don't at the Co-op, which for me, with my fumbling hands, is very much appreciated.

I think she means another commercially unviable shop, shops can't stay open for bread alone!

The shop Rindy mentioned is local and welcoming, be grateful you've got that, or move nearer to another shop.

The formal announcement should be in a few days, but the Pallidium is about to become Ossy's first pound shop.

I've heard that it's going to be a themed pound shop, Flat caps, Shawls and high quality twine for tying your whippet to the pubs hitching post, (if you can find a pub thats open!).
Also a Local version of the deli' counter with Lancashire hot Pot, tripe and onion and jellied pigs trotters available 24/7.

Oh yes, and a chemists counter with dolly blue for putting on the kids ringworm, a traditional nit nurse on call with a multi-purpose paraffin wash that can also double up as a cure for constipation. The ailses will be slightly wider than normal so that people with the compulsory 'rickets' can pass each other without any real hinderance.

Apparently, they're going to do a big line in porcelin p*ss pots to put under your bed. This is the new enviromentally friendly method of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, because as of next year, your loo will be metered and each flush will be subject to a tax of 50p.

They always try and rip you off though! Twice now I've been, given them a £10 note, and they've given me change for a fiver.. and when you correct them they act like it was just a common mistake! Yeah right!.. more like con artists making a bit of money!

It also looks like an eye sore now.. how they've just placed the Ossy General sign over the Chimes sign.. looks awful! Green sign.. then a smaller red one posted over?! Talk about cheapskates..

Well I've been in daily for two years and have never been short changed. Perhaps you just have one of those faces that make people want to exploit you.

It looks less of an eyesore than the empty restaurant, that was there for eighteen months.

morgan_brotherz 31-10-2006 16:03

Re: Ossy Palladium

Actually, it wasnt an emply restaurant for eighteen months, it did take a long time to sell, and there's no need to correct me, I know the previous owners mate.

And I have to disagree, Id rather it been an 'empty restaurant' than what it is now, it looks like an eye sore when walking/driving past. Whereas when it was 'Chimes' sign, you couldnt even tell it was closed, it just looked like a nice, decent restaurant.

Im ahshamed at looking at it, one of the first shops coming into Oswaldtwistle, and you see that, its turning into Blackburn Road (Which is slightly improving now actually).. but think of all the visitors to Oswaldtwistle (IE: Ossy Mills Shoppers).. walking into Oswaldtwistle, and seeing that shop, sign over sign, etc.. and the next window is just breeze blocks with no sign at all!.. then you get the Foxhill & Peel Court.. Im ashamed to think what visitors to the town think.

It is eighteen months, as my Godfather has the butchers next door, and I was eating in Chimes two days before the chef/owner did a midnight flit to Pleasington. I'm never wrong sunny Jim, well not about this.

You'd rather have an empty retaurant (with terrible, out of character PVC windows the last owner put in,) I'd rather have a local, friendly shop. C'est la vie.

morgan_brotherz 31-10-2006 16:17

Re: Ossy Palladium

They are still 'terrible, out of character PVC windows'. It's not exactly welcoming, a none-see through PVC door with a little paper sign on saying open or closed.. It looks a mess in my opinion. I notice you chose not to mention the breeze block area above the second window?

Yes, I'd rather have an empty restaurant. It looked decent from the outer side, which is more important to me than whats inside. The outside of a shop (or anywhere) needs to look nice, it makes the town as a whole nice, especially on the main road.

Blackburn Road wannabe's I tell ya!

Yeah, of course.. but it looked better when it was a closed restaurant. And to me, the entrance of a town has to look good.

It isn' at 'the entrance to the town', that is at the Palladium, with the welcome to Oswaldtwistle sign.

As for if an empty restaurant, or busy shop, gives off a better visual impression to visitors to the town, as resident aesthetics expert, I say the latter.

Perhaps your opposition to this shop is based on the owners being Muslim? As why else would you earlier in this thread compare it to Blackburn Road in Accrington? Totally irrelevant.

How stupid. It has nothing to do with the fact. And the reason I mentioned Blackburn Road is because it looks like a sh*t tip. It had nothing to do with the owners ethnic origin, you are the one suggesting that I am refering to Muslims by mentioning Blackburn Road, totally irrelevant.

Persides, if my opposition was based on the owners being Muslim, I would also be complaining about Pizza Palace, Eat Well, Jalfrezi (Whatever its called now), Slice Of Heaven (Bottom Of Rhyddings Street), Village Pantry 2.. (Bottom Of Rhyddings Street)..

..And Im not complaining about them, because their shops look half decent! Aswel as most shops on Union Road. I was complaining about 'Ossy General Store' because it looks like garbage, not because the owners are Muslim.

D*ck Head.

People really do p*ss me off with your 'think you know it all' comments. You being one of them.

Don't jump out of your pram sonny.

If you'd have qualified your reference to Blackburn Road in the first place, you still have your dummy in the pram with you.

As someone, who in my opinion is more qualified as to the asthetics of something than you, I am right, and you therefore are sadly wrong.

See, I didn't have to be a big baby and resort to name calling.

You were wrong about the restaurant not having been closed for eighteen months.

You were wrong about the shop being at the entrance to the town. Besides most visitors to Ossy/Ossy Mills come from the Motorway, and never even pass this shop.

You are wrong that this shop looks worse than an empty restaurant.

As for me looking silly, you are wrong there too.

Correction, although they may arrive from the Motorway, most visitors do like to visit the centre of Oswaldtwistle, and venture up the road. And please dont try and correct me, I worked on the entrance of Oswaldtwistle Mills for over a year, directing visitors to sites in Oswaldtwistle.

Your opinion.. Therfore I am not wrong, you just dont agree. Just because you have an opinion on something, it doesnt make it right, neither does it make the person with other opinions to you right.

Again, my opinion, and then there's your opinion.

I find it quite sad that a seventeen year old has to spell this out for you. Teaching you on life's opinions. And yes, I did guess the Karma was from you, which I also find very childish and pathetic that you give negative Karma because someone has a different opinion than you. So what? Are you saying you never exaggerated your age? Did you never have a pint in a pub when you were underage? Or sneak into the piccy's to see an X-rated mucky film?

No, not banned under his name, and profile still shows him a member of the over eighteens section.:(

I did reply, but it appears my post was deleted. I was just explaining how I do find it funny yes, and the news of me being a 'lier' must be of some excitement in your dull, boring life. To be honest, I dont think the press could care less.

Morgan_brothers

According to our records you have never been in the over 18’s section. You are not a member of that section or ever were. How you have an agreed Rules in your profile is a mystery and will be looked into.

:)

This is lovely stuff. Garinda accuses one of the younger members of the forum of being a pathological liar, on the basis of a minor hickup in the computer software. I do trust that he will now be withdrawing his remarks and issuing a grovelling apology to this young man, in big letters where we can all see it.

Nah let's make it a proper soap, morgan goes on an extended holiday, (Perhaps he can be transported to Australia for displaying false information in his profile), just before rindy has a new patio laid, at 'Brokeback Mansion'.
Rumours can run riot in the 'anything goes section', that the last time they were seen together was around the back of the Palladium, (There you go Panther, the threads back on track). So long as we keep it to just two half hour sessions per week we can have the police digging up the patio on Christmas eve and just as rindy is seen to be losing it for the very last time. Who comes back from his travels with something hard and pink poking out of his trousers for rindy, (calm down you filthy minded lot, it's a stick of Australian peppermint rock), it's morgan whistling the theme tune to neighbours.:D

Anywhooo! Back on track!

I drove past the Palladium yesterday and there was a man bricking up some of the entrances along the side which, up until now, had only had wood panels blocking them.

Re: Ossy Palladium

what use is that? its still looks a mess!:(

Suspect was something to one of the doors being completely open during the last fortnight. Saw a policeman trying to board it up himself on Thursday, so think maybe the new owner has been asked to make it more 'non-entry safe'

WillowTheWhisp 12-11-2006 19:26

Re: Ossy Palladium

Any idea what the new owner's plans are yet?

Tealeaf 14-11-2006 09:05

Re: Ossy Palladium

I too, saw the guy bricking up the old side exits, using standard breeze blocks, rather than red brick. I suspect this has been done for health & safety issues - the owner of the building would have liability should any kids break in there and injure themselves. Any redevelopment of the building would see a different sort of construction activity.

I also noticed, slightly earlier, that the temporary roofing over the Hargreaves warehouse seems to have been blown away in the windy weather over the weekend. I wonder when that will get replaced?

panther 14-11-2006 10:39

Re: Ossy Palladium

drove past last night and so some little buggers going in through the panel they aint bricked up! and i know who they are! a right pair of stupid kids i can tell you! they wont think they clever if the thing collasped on them!

I assume that you then went on to advise them of your window-dressing skills derived from your time in the Metropolis?
