When I joined I tried for the user name Jo but someone already had it, so the first name I thought of was Grego which is how my driving licence number starts, strange but it was the first thing that came to mind!

In my defence I did join at a time when it would have been a bit daft for me to be called something else - what would have been the point of someone called Cupcakes (and yes, it is a nickname that I used to get called) talking about the subjects that I end up talking about. Although a bit of anonymity would be good sometimes - I could say a lot more than I can say at the moment!

jambutty 14-01-2007 15:14

Re: User Names

In the days of austerity when everything was on ration I was, and still am, partial to a fruit slice better known as a jam buttie. Then when the call to arms came (I volunteered actually) my new navy shipmates nicknamed me jambuttie because at tea time there was always jam, plenty of bread if only a marginal pat of butter. In spite of that I would ladle copious amounts of jam onto a few slices of bread and wolf them down.

When the CB rage hit town I was jambutty on there and now jambutty on the Internet.

entwisi 14-01-2007 19:47

Re: User Names

when I first started at Barclays they created logon accounts based on your first 6 letters of your surname and your initial. hence entwisi

It also worked on teh net for me as there is a physic lecturer at Manchester uni called Ian Entwistle who had grabbed ian entwistle logins all over teh place. I've never found a site where someone has already registered entwisi so I stuck with it everywhere.

Re: User Names

Mine's because I've worked in the fitted kitchen business for 30-odd years, I still see old customers from many years ago, who can't remember my name, (Gerard), so they refer to me as 'the kitchen man'
The reason for the three capital letters is because they are the initials of the company I work for.

Re: User Names

For any curious new floks:

Lanc - Grandpa Hall born in Ashton-Under-Lyne, Lancashire (1898), died in Accrington (!980)

York - Nana Hall (Woodhead), born in Bradford, Yorkshire (1906)

Yank - BEA, born in Rhode Island (New England) so my southern friends refer to me as a "yank."

Clever eh?

Just curious UKCowboy. What is the definition of a cowboy over there. Is it just the hat or do you also ride, rope, brand, spit, chew, etc? I've done all those things and wondered if any different in England?
