Any other Graduates out there?

Just got back from Annie Victoria Atkin's Graduation from High School. Quite an event, with bagpipes and all. Although there were 425 in her senior class, the whole ceremony only took 2 hours. She was 25th in her class. Just a bit of bragging to the Accyweb family!:cool::p

Any other graduates out there?

Brian

P.S. Oh, and Joshua was voted most likely to succeed in his middle school graduating class of 250 kids.:)

Re: Any other Graduates out there?

Obviously the UK education system is different to the US one, so we don't 'graduate' from 'high' school. In our system there isn't a graduation until you complete a higher education course, usually a degree at a university when graduates are in their 20s.

Re: Any other Graduates out there?

I was just thinking about this difference, as I watched them graduating High School, in the movie Grease.

As Tin Monkey pointed out, graduates here are people who have completed a degree. I graduated in 1986, with a first class Bachelor of Arts (Honours.)

Congratulations to Annie.:)

Did they have a graduation dance and fun fair, like in Grease?:D

Would be good to see any piccies LYY, sure you have them.

Well done your kids .. must be proud.

Always wondered on what pointers they base a student on 'most likely to succeed' ? (no budgie jokes please). Is it academic ability, ambition driven, entrepreneur, materialistic driven, personality, networking ability .. ? hope you get my meaning. And how to do they consider what is success ??
Also wonder if any stastitics have been produced that endorse the earlier honour.

High school just sort of fizzles to an end here although we do seem to have adopted the US idea of the school prom now.

I have two degrees. An undergraduate first degree, plus a post graduate Masters. I only need one more and I could form an all female singing trio. ;)

Still don't know much, mind you. :D

Re: Any other Graduates out there?

It is very different here Brian and many people do not get higher qualifications until they are much older. I decided to persue a different avenue and went for a Nursing registration when I was 19. I never fancied going to University so doing the RGN was an alternative. I then went to Uni and got a Diploma in Midwifery followed by mentoring and clinical assessing qualifications.

I finally bit the bullet and did a part time degree whilst working full time. It was 5 years of hellish hard work trying to meet assignment deadlines whilst working shifts. I graduated last year (at the grand old age of 38) with a BSc (Hons) in Professional Studies of Midwifery. I don't even want to think about doing a Masters just yet..:)

Congratulations to Annie. :D

Thanks, but to be honest, having higher qualifications doesn't always mean someone has good all-round knowledge. The fact is, the higher the qualification, the more specialised, focussed and limited the knowledge is. I know people with post-graduate qualifications and don't even know what day it is. ;)

I'd agree with that one TM,

I'm one of the quality people who dropped out of Uni.
