:D:D Well, yes, but not this one .. as far as I know the one I was referring to is still Secretary of State for Trasport.. mind you, don't think she agreed with a translation of street signs into Polish, but could have done a U-turn as politicians do.

Oh Cashy, you have now turned what I thought was a witty remark into a mundane explanation ...

Turn right at the top of your block Less that is Countess St.Used to be a free-standing St sign at the bottom of Hyndburn St(could this be the one) I believe most of the area was built by Frederick Steiner who apart from the obvious also had a hand in the building of the Oak Tree pub.Maybe he was a count and the St was named after his wife In any event the old counts dead now and the new name of Popadom Way is on the cards

Am I the only person who thinks Countess Street is at the bottom and Blackburn Road at the top?

yes but what if you live on one of the streets lower down than countess street?
surely countess street is above then?

the street im talking about runs both ways therefore countess street is at the top of his street

All streets run both ways, but just to update you all,

I actually walked along there this afternoon, and that is the place I left the sign at, (they have scaffolding up and have just had the side re-pointed).

They either run all the way through, or only as far as, though don't they? There aren't any streets which just start at Countess Street. Russia Street, Hyndburn Street, India Street only go as far down as Countess Street. Emma Street is further down but it's parallel so Countess Street is neither top nor bottom of that one.
