How healthy are you?

I've just been watching a programme on health issues and it was on the subject of eating. Now i don't think i eat that badly but when it asked you to cast your mind back and think of what you have had in the last week well that became abit fatty to say the least. Do you eat healthy options or do you stick with good old junk food?

Re: How healthy are you?

I have a healthy diet ... all it took to get me to eat the right foods in the right amounts was four and a half hours of surgery, 3 days in the ICU, two weeks in hospital, and a year to get back to almost normal.

But I do like Pringles (or did) ... if any food was invented by a stoner, Pringles was .... a couple of gaggers, a few beers, and Pringles!!! Don't just eat one, eat 'em in stacks.

I am ultra careful about what I eat.
I am not very physically active due to disabilities, so I have a small appetite.
This is all the more reason to ensure that what I eat is all good stuff.
I avoid trans fats - only use natural fats - virgin olive oil and butter, avoiding all food additives.
I buy organic and free range whenever it is available, despite the extra cost.
I consider it wiser to eat less of the good stuff rather than get overfull on junk..
I have the time to cook using wholesome ingredients.
I make my own bread, biscuits and yogurt.

On my last grocery order I used Sainsburys and got some free samples of snack foods. I tried them YUK!! -Walkers Wheaty snack and oven baked crisps - both tasted very artificial and stuck to the roof of my mouth - I don't understand why people pay good money for cardboard junk food.

On the whole I’m fairly happy with my diet, it just lacks fruit, I’m not a fan of it

Try a juicer - less effort needed to eat lots of fruit and veg this way

Those oven baked crisps are vile, taste like cardboard. Not that I eat cardboard like. well i did when I was a kid I suppose.

Anyway I eat far too many cakes and biscuits and junk food. But then I do try to eat fruit n veg too. Still getting a lil tum on me though.
I'm a sweet person rather than a savoury person.

LOL no - I think you are influenced by my avatar - In Last of the Summer wine, Thora Hird used them to keep her mechanic husband in line.

I have an old black tomcat with aloplecia, and pale carpets, I find that a Dyson Animal machine is enough, plus 2 absorbent cotton doormats for visitors ;)

I like to think I am fairly healthy
I have a very physical job which keeps me fit no end, I dont drink much if any, dont eat much take away if any, dont eat much chocolates or such like junk foods, I enjoy my fruit and veg too much if anything, we tend to eat home made meals as opposed to ready meals that are full of too much salt and sugars,
and if I am honest on the rare occasion that I do have a take away I feel guilty after eating it cos I know its full of rubbish...
my only bad habit is too much white bread - which I am working on...

Re: How healthy are you?

totally unhealthy

eat sweeties, smoke, eat fast food, eat meals out of plastic cartons, dont make it from scratch not often anyway every so often when feeling guilty i'll buy a salad bag from asda and stick with a burger or a salmon fillet or lamb steak but basically im an unhealthy person - but over the last two years ive managed to lose weight so i must be doing something right. By the way not all the time but most of the time i buy white bread.

Re: How healthy are you?

I do my best. I eat plenty of fruit and veg, wholemeal bread, no ready meals, no fizzy drinks, no fatty puddings, no sweets, no crisps. Same goes for my children. The way I look at it, my children are only very young and I am just trying to start them off on the right path. I know that as they get older they will be offered these things at parties etc. but for now, I have control.

Re: How healthy are you?

Most of you seem to be either one extreme or the other, you should eat fruit and at least try to counter balance the junk food. Jen i'm surprised at you tut.

Lilly I think what we eat when we're young seems to set preferences and habits for later on in life so well done to you.

Re: How healthy are you?

over the last two weeks or so i have cut out most carbs(potatoes pasta wheat) ( no not the atkins) eat more fruit and drink more water
not only have i lost half a stone without intending to (although i am not complaining) i feel much better -more energy etc
i have a terrible habit of grabbing a slice of bread and butter so i thought i would miss it but i havent
so i guess the answer to your question is healthier than i was two weeks ago lol

I am SOOOOO glad you said that Cashy. I am sick and weary of people spouting off that slim = active energetic person with healthy and nutritious diet, and fat = overeating lazy slob. I can't remember when I last had a cream cake. I do not like fatty food. We never have 'sweets' or 'puddings' and I love fruit! Yet I am desperately struggling to lose weight. I did succumb to KFC last week but it's not as if I do it all the time. It is so frustrating when I see slim people around me tucking into allsorts. I should be the healthiest person I know, so why aren't I?

jaysay 26-02-2008 17:30

Re: How healthy are you?

I was very much like cashy until I was 32, I was 6ft 4in tall and weighed in at 11 stone 7lbs from being 18, then I stopped smoking, ever since i've been fighting with keeping my weight down. I eat rather healthily at least 5 pieces of fruit a day, don't drink during the week in winter, and only wine at weekends, since sept 22nd i've lost 2 stone 7lbs, but that will change when I come out of hibernation afte Easter all that will change, when I become partial again to Thwaites Smooth Mild:D:D:D
