Re: Why.......
You used to be able to get wild bird seed, the only trouble was that all the young lasses used to eat it:D:eek:

Re: Why.......
I used to feed the birds. Used to buy a big bag of wild bird seed and fill up the feeders in the back garden. Mum used to sit there and watch the birds feeding. She enjoyed it. Then one day was in the back garden putting the washing out - and saw a rat eating the birdseed that had fallen on the floor. Stopped feeding the birds after that.
Every now and then if i have any bread left over will chuck it out - all ripped into little pieces and if its still there at teatime i will go and out and pick it up and chuck it in the bin. |
Re: Why.......
I have from time to time gone out to find someone has thrown bread onto my garage roof for the birds. I dont personally do it but if they want to feed the birds its nothing to do with me but I would prefer it if they wernt to put it on my garage roof and put it somewhere on their own property, my garage is not a bird table!! (its more cats that sit up there than birds anyway!)

Re: Why.......
I don't feed birds in my garden but I often have pigeons around - Wood Pigeons. They are beautiful birds, big too, and they strut around like they own the place. I know there is a pair nesting in the guttering above my bedroom window, as the occasional egg has rolled down on to the patio, and sometimes they sit on the chimney and coo - it echoes down the flue. :D
We do feed the ducks on the canal and the Dam. They get left-over bread from an awful lot of people, not to mention tit-bits from the holiday-makers on the canal boats. All our ducks here are fat and fit but sometimes they seem to get thinned out. I presume it's coincidental that the Chinese Restaurant (which backs on to the canal) never runs out of crispy duck. :p |
