Tattoo or not Tattoo

Nearly every time you open a paper or watch TV these so called stars are all covered in tattoos, but to m it doesn't do anything for their appearance, Amy Winehouse springs readily to mind, tatoos to that extent on a woman are awful, small ones in discreat places okay, but all over the arms is unsightly, although its different for men, but to many even them don't look right to me, i. e. David Bekham. I have never had the urge to have a tattoo of any sort, have you and why did you decide to have one

I have one. It's a butterfly on my ankle. I had it done, quite simply because I wanted to know what it felt like. It's fairly small and took about half an hour to do. I'm half tempted to have another one but now that I've had one I don't feel such a burning desire to have more.

Re: Tattoo or not Tattoo

i have 2 the first when i was 17 i got "your name" on my bum cheek (jackass was all the rage) i still look at it today and remember good times and the other is on my wrist its a hyroglyph from the third blade move (the one the blond guys has under his belly button)

there only small and yes i am marked for life but i am happy i have them and most of the time forget them being there, i do not plan on having any more as its like a piece of art just one more mark and its ruined i think 2 is enough

Re: Tattoo or not Tattoo

I don't mind them in discreet places....Ankles, feet, back etc.. on women.

My mate had a playboy bunny done on her foot....Wouldn't have been my choice, but it looks ok.

She said she wanted one on her arm with her kids name under it....AFTER I had finished slapping her round the head to bring her to her senses, she realised that maybe she didn't want one on her arms.

I think it looks awful when women have them on their arms.... and I think people judge you by the look of your tattoo's than the actual real you.

I like those at the base of the back and those that go up the back... i do want one (or 2 lol)
my mum and step mum have tattoo's and they look nice. My step dad is covered in them and my dad started having one and chickened out lol.

How anyone can deface their body permanently is beyond me.

Still, always useful for identification if one of your ex-girl friends decides to chop you up in little pieces... :D (only joking)

I don't like them at all and all 3 of my children have them. My son has a sort of skull thingy set in a flower (he designed it himself) on his shoulder. Both my daughters have a small rose on the shoulder but the younger one also has a Chinese symbol on her thigh. It's supposed to say "dad" but, as we don't speak or read Chinese, it could be an obscenity for all I know.

One night in gay Paree I paid 10 francs to see
The tattoed French lady tattooed from head to knee.
Tattooed across her jaw was the Royal Flying Corps
And right across her back there was the Union Jack.
Marching up her right knee was the Household Cavalry
And all around her hips was a fleet of battleships

On her left kidney was the harbour bridge at Sydney
But what I liked best, right across her chest,
Was my home in Tennessee.

Anon.

Re: Tattoo or not Tattoo

Most look cheap and naff, I wouldn't bother tbh, they all seem to fade and you can't really go back and say " well, it's not how I thought it would be".
I thought ( in my hippy days when I was young and daft) that I might have one if I saw the "right design that was really me" , I still haven't seen it and have now gone off them totally.

I don't like anybody covered in them but some look ok, if women have them maybe a discreet one or two. Not my sort of thing really and can't understand causing yourself pain unneccessarily.

Re: Tattoo or not Tattoo

Have a couple myself, can’t say that I bother one way or another about tats on women. Not into these piercings though. The daughter has had one done in her cleavage ?? Strange…. but it doesn’t look too bad. It’s those strange piercings I’m not into, stretching and the like, where folk have huge holes in their earlobes or have ball bearings inserted under the skin. Scarification is another, the daughter has had that done too, some sort of pattern or woman or something on the top of her leg.

As for Amy Winehouse, she needs draggin’ through a sheep dip filled with mouthwash, she looks a right mucky cow.

lindsay ormerod 13-06-2008 21:13

Re: Tattoo or not Tattoo

I will own up to 3 piercings, 2 normal ear lobe piercings and 1 at the top of my right ear. It hurt like mad, and I couldn't lie on it for weeks ! It's fine now though I don't bother changing it, and tbh you wouldn't see it if I had longer hair !

Only have my ear pierced, not wore owt in it for 15 years or so.

The piercing was a gift form my 18th. I was in the Merch and at sea at the time, the lads thought it nice to hold me down and use a dart out the dartboard…ahhhh fond memories :D

Never had a tattoo

Wouldn't want one either, used to think about it when I was younger
Glad it stopped at the thinking part cos I just imagine what it would look like when someone is old n wrinkly:(

SOme look good, but I think they look better on a piece of paper

I would look at a drawing of it and think ohh nice, I would look at someone's arm and think ohh your scarred for life:eek:

About 10 years ago whilst on holiday in Greece, my friend and I went "shopping" for an hour (leaving our other halves in a bar) and came back with fake transfer tattoos, with added blusher to make them look painful. We convinced everyone in our group that they were real, and my husband didn't speak to me for the rest of the evening (except to say "why?" and shake his head in disgust).

Four times in each ear but I rarely bother with earrings now - I used to wear huge earrings in each piercing and jangled when i moved.:D

What with that and the amount of those thin bangles that I used to wear you could probably hear me from a mile off!

I knew a fellah who had his wife's name tattooed across his forehead. He'd had it done when they were first married and he was on holiday - and very drunk. He looked a complete twit but looked even dafter when he left his wife and ran off with another woman. I didn't know who she was but, for her sake, I hope her name was JOSIE too. :D

I have 2 tattoos, one on my arm which ive had for 9 years now. And one at the bottom of my back, have had that one for 7 years. The one on the bottom of my back needs recolouring and i want it adding to. Also want to get Harry's name somewhere. Neither of them hurt at all.

My Dad has a few, he has one on his shoulder and he passed out with that one. But was fine with the rest. He also did his own when he was at school, its on his hand and says "Kate Bush" its horrid, but thankfully has faded over the years!!

Also have my tongue pierced, which didnt hurt (and no food doesnt get stuck in it)

I have four; and I'm happy with them all. On my right forearm I have a raven carrying a banner with "Nevermore" on it ... not that I'm a great fan of Poe, but it seemed appropriate after the collapse of my second marriage. Also on my right arm I have a portrait of my favorite dog of all time, with the lettering "Best Friend" and under it her name, "Hera", and her dates 1994 _2004. On my left arm I have a Lancashire Rose. On my back I have a fairly large killer whale done in native style by my friend Abigail who is a member of the Tsimshian First Nation, Gispwudwada (Killer Whale) Clan, from Northern BC. All of them are special in some way, and I regret none of them. My rules for tatoos: think before you ink, know the artist and his/her work, NEVER have the name or portrait of a boyfriend/girlfriend tatooed anywhere on your body.:alright:

I have a oriental dragon on my back / shoulder. I like it, always have done (although sometimes I do forget its there and it shocks me) My reasoning for getting this done was because my ex said 1) that i couldnt get one done and 2) that I daren't. So just to prove him wrong I got it done. Dont regret it. Do plan on getting another one at some point, just not decided on exactly what and where yet but it will have my boys names on it

I have an American Indian chieftan in full headress on my upper right arm. Had it done in Bognor Regis a few years ago totally on the spur of the moment. Just saw it in a shop window and wanted it. Never regretted it once. I keep saying I'm going to have an Accrington Stanley crest on my upper left arm, but I haven't got round to it yet. Maybe I will this season.

My Fiance has a Stanley badge on his forearm and it looks really smart but they aren't cheap and take a bit of time but i think if its something you really want it is definately worth it!

Loz, how much and where?

It was 100 pounds from mick's tattoo place across from the castle but i would recommend going to frank's tattoo place just a bit further up from the castle pub on the same side.

I'm not trying to say that mick is bad,the tattoo looks good but Frank's tattoo place just feels more professional and his work is excellent.
At the end of the day it comes down to where you feel most comfortable if you get it done!
Good luck if you do!
I will try and get a pic of it on here for you shortly.

I'm not very good with technology so i'm hoping Frank will be able to do it when he gets home from work later.

Re: Tattoo or not Tattoo

I don't have any tattoos, although I think they can look pretty cool on guys. I think women with the small butterfly type tattoos can be nice. Not keen on the many folks around here with heavily tattooed necks and lower backs.

My closest thing to a tattoo is an attempted imprint made on my inner forearm with a pound coin. Two winters ago, was trying to see if I could get the Queen's image in relief. Left the coin on the woodstove for "awhile." Place said very hot coin onto forearm flesh. Held/pressed much too hard/much too long, causing ~2nd to 3rd degree burn. Coin had stuck to flesh and had to be peeled off.

It has heeled into a fairly cool looking scar which has become more eliptical as the forearm muscle expands. Oh, and no siting of the good queen, looks more like Quasimodo! :p

Cheers. Loz. Looks good, although I'll probably have mine a bit smaller.

Strange to think how I hated wearing my AGS blazer with that same badge on it and now I'm thining of having it done on my arm.

Anyway, thanks foe taking the time and trouble to post it. Karma sent.
