Do People Look As You Imagined Them?
Was just wondering if the way picture people to look you whilst chatting on here or any other sites are ever anything like their true image? I know people have said they imagine me with short dark hair(I am fair and my hair is medium length). How does your mental image stand up against how a person really looks?
|
Re: Do People Look As You Imagined Them?

i already knew what you looked like Bernie, so that didnt make a difference |

Even though I know what people look like I still keep an imaginary different image in my head when I read their posts.
|
Re: Do People Look As You Imagined Them?
lol willow.... ive met quite a few accyweb members and none of them looked how i expected them to.
|
Re: Do People Look As You Imagined Them?
i stil refer to people using their usernames, even if i know them pretty well.... its hard to stop doing it lol
|
Re: Do People Look As You Imagined Them?
to me nobody is ever what they seem, perhaps i'm just crap at sussing.
|
Re: Do People Look As You Imagined Them?
I don't know many of the accyweb members in the real world.......and yes I do have images of how they may look.......I was quite shocked when I first met Mick and he didn't look a bit like that hairy scientist.(it was his avatar at the time)
But Less looks just as I had imagined him. I'm just going to let you know that I look nothing like MY avatar:D |
Re: Do People Look As You Imagined Them?
I only know what those of you look like who are on photos of meet-ups. One or two, when I've seen them for the first time, have surprised me. ;) Apart from that, I knew what Pendy looked like many, many years ago but I haven't seen her since she was about 12, when I left school.
Sometimes voices give a false clue to what the person looks like. Some of the older members may remember, back in the days of radio in the 50s, there was a news and sports reporter called Tom Naisby. He was based in Blackburn and was very well known at the time on the "Northern Home Service". He had a very rich, "dark brown" voice, one of those voices that makes you imagine a tall, dark, handsome man. My dad knew him quite well and one day, when I was about 14, he came to our house. What a let-down! He looked a lot like Norris Cole from Corrie - only fatter. It just didn't seem right that that voice was coming out of that body. :biggrin8: Don't know how you see me (decrepit, probably) but I'm 5'1" tall, quite slim, have short(ish) grey hair, wear glasses and am, of course, devastatingly attractive. :) You guessed that, didn't you? :blush8: |
Re: Do People Look As You Imagined Them?
Never met an Accy webber so i`ve no idea........i just have this mental picture of Hobbits.....the lot of us.......
|
Re: Do People Look As You Imagined Them?
Well, West ender...that has really burst my bubble.
I had imagined you with glasses and grey hair(nicely cut) but imagined you to be slim and leggy. |

Ooh, I always wanted to be leggy but I'm the only titch in a tall family. I even married a man 6' tall and I think of my son (who is 5'9 and a half) as quite short. My grandson makes up for it, though, he's 6'4. |
Re: Do People Look As You Imagined Them?
Me too, I always wanted to have longer legs......my husband jokes and says that M&S put turn ups on the knickers especially for me.......I've told him that many a big apple is rotten :D

Re: Do People Look As You Imagined Them?
Met quite a few people over the last 8 years or so from various sites. Most if not all have been nothing like I initially imagined. Always got to know people in the past before meeting, pics/ web cam, so had a rough idea of what to expect before the first encounter. That was until my one Accyweb meet, went to that virtually “blind”, did scour the gallery section before hand so some faces were not totally new to me.
Guess it’s always worthwhile to remember that some people have an “online persona” which is generally totally different to their real life character. |
Re: Do People Look As You Imagined Them?
No,never do.Went to a wedding once of a very close friend of mine(shall we say).Never met her husband, she'd never met Mrs Silver. The first time we met again afterher marriage bith of us agreed that our partners were nothing at all like either of us had imagined.I find it's the same if you're going to some place you've never been before, you have this mental image of how you think the place will look but it's always different. Please ignore that bit i put in brackets,it makes it seem as though something untowards was going on & there was'nt.Maybe wishful thinking....maybe too much drink blah, blah, blah

Re: Do People Look As You Imagined Them?
know a couple of Accy-webbers, (one I re-hooked up with thru accy-web), we live on three separate continents, haven't seen either for 30/20+ years but both will stay in my mind forever as they were then.
As for "mental images' of various Accy-webbers , Got to say the only "mental image' of any Accy-web user I can come up with is of Gayle .........every post of hers I read I see/imagine ...the actress Emma Thompson . the only other Accy-web user I have a mental image of is the 'Smiler' character from 'Last of the Summer wine' and I think he is an Accy-web user who lives either full or part time in Spain :D:D |

Meeting Cashy was something of a shock too. After we'd talked on-line about the dozens of people we both knew and the places we went to at the same time back in the 60's, I expected to recognise him instantly...but I didn't know him from Adam. I must have been more out of it than I thought way back then! The other person who didn't live up to my imagined image was the late Ianto.W. After our huge on-line row when he first joined, I expected a thin, miserable-looking sort of bloke with a persona to match. Instead, I found a large, expansive man with a warm personality and who turned out to be a laugh a minute. Although I only met him once, I still miss him. As for you, Pipinfort, I can't for the life of me understand how you can be a regular up t'Stanley and NOT have met any Accywebbers. They're here, there and everywhere up there and I've met around twenty-odd simply by standing on the Clayton End, although I suppose you have to know one to "unlock the key" to rest... |
Re: Do People Look As You Imagined Them?
I dont really have an image of people I dont know, except from some avatars, they stick with me a little, it is much better having met people, then it is more like responding to a 'person'.

Well I've met very few people on here, cashy was much like I thought he would be, but was surprised how well we got on. I always thought of Rindi as an art student with long hair and colurful clothes, that is until saw his picks in the gallary. Young AndrewB (cyfr) was just as I imagined him. As for most of the others I've never met I ain't got a clue. Oh yes I think of Mancie as Freddy Frinton:D

Re: Do People Look As You Imagined Them?
When I came over for my first Meet, and met 20 - 30 of you guys (all at once), it was pretty overwhelming: between putting names with faces and then the various accents. Funny how my thoughts went so quickly to meeting these complete strangers (physically speaking) to quickly warming up to each when the Accy names started fitting into the various characteristics and personalities I'd come to know and love from Accyweb.
I hope that makes at least a bit of sense! Brian |
Re: Do People Look As You Imagined Them?
I've known Andrewb most of my life so he's never a shock.
I met Pam1 the other day and she was lovely. I met Margaret Pilkington earlier and wasn't entirely sure what I was expecting, perhaps someone older. I expect a lot of you to be old miserable sods actually, so it is always a pleasant surprise to see that you are lovely and smiley :D |
