allotments: who has one? and how long did you wait for it?
 

I am presuming that getting an allotment is rather difficult?

I would love to have my own one where I could grow all my own fare and have some poultry..
does anyone on here have one and as the title says , how long did you have to wait for it?
and can you buy the actual plot/bit of land outright?
and whats the price of them?
and if anyone who still has one that they no longer use and would be willing to let me rent from them then let me know..

they have some just off Arthur street in Clayton, they belong to the church on there, you could always try having a word with the priest/vicar

There is normally a waiting list for allotments, good luck in getting one there is nothing better than growing your own veg and the like.

There is a big waiting list in most of Hyndburn as far as I am aware. They are looking at splitting up larger ones and reclaiming unused/overgrown ones from the tenants in an attempt to reduce the waiting lists.

There are over 120 people on the waiting list for allotments in Oswaldtwistle - that gives you an idea of how much in demand they are.

I think splitting them is a good idea, a lot of them are far to large for one person to keep up with. Ian had one over Church but his mate used half of it

We had to wait 4 years for ours (and we are in blackpool lol bit too far to trael )
But seriously I think no matter where you are there will be a waiting list.
The last one we had just down the road didnt have as long a waiting list as this one we have now so we got that in a couple of week s
What im trying to say is that I think it all depends on the area really. they have some in Ossy heys lane way but I think thay have a fair waiting list.
As for buying them I doubt it . The councils and government are trying to push them (healthy eating and all) thay=t they are become ever popular.

Hyndburn Council are teh biggest bunch of incompetants going in this space.

I waited 3 years for one in Bash, got one all overgrown/derelict etc. Spent a year getting it looking half decent with Spuds, Onions etc ( nothing too fancy to start with). then had a bike accident and broke my back so was not going to be able to go up for a while. After 1 month of not going I had a letter saying I wasn't using it and it would be reclaimed from me as there was a huge waiting list ( despite there being about a dozen others in derelict state). 3 years later it still hadn't been touched.......
