I'm sure if it was going up to Scotland, they'd appreciate the value of a couple of bottles of Corporation pop being in the hamper.

For a luxury hamper, a Magnum of this delicious beverage would be a nice touch.

It is a Jock concoction but I reckon it should be called 'Catholic fish' due to it regularly being served on Fridays for school dinner. Well it seemed like every Friday at St. Mary's in Hassy.

Butter pies sound like some cheap, meat free, muck those miserly Yorkshire folk dreamt up.

After they'd worked out how not to give you much roast beef, by inventing the custom of eating an eggy puddin' 'n' gravy, before the main course.

Butter pies were called Catholic Pies because they were aimed at the Catholics and their meat free Friday.......John I am amazed that you have never heard of them, let alone tried them.
Mrs Almond....at the end of Marsden St in Accrington used to do them just on a Friday.....so we also knew them as Friday Pies(cheese pies were also dubbed this).......and they were absolutely delicious.
I haven't had one of these for years.

Butter pies, try the bread basket up ossy, quality say no more, howver going back to the original question Lancashire Hamper heres my two penny's worth
Bombay Mix, Mixed Kebab, Chicken Balti, Polski Chicken and off course that good old favourite Regae Regae sauce

Loads of places sell em, Clayton Park Bakery make them, they have them in Spar Supermarkets, Lens in the Market Hall sometimes have them too!

Well I have now tried Butter Pies, thanks to Jen, and they are very good, the meat pies from cissy greens aren't bad either

You are right about the Catholics, my family used to get them on Fridays as we weren't allowed to eat meat on that day. Used to get them from a bakers in Clayton which, strangely, was near All Saints school, the non-catholic one!
