You really need to start thinking outside the black box, (even that is a bright orange these days). |

Re: Fashion's devotion to Black - do you wear it?
Some cultures only wear white/off white for funerals rather than black. Some other cultures wear red as well as black I believe.
Most of my evening dresses are black. I think it is more forgiving rather than a case of it being more or less attractive. I don't wear a particular colour more than any other on a general day to day basis. However, I also never wear white and don't own any plain white underwear. Just a few items with patterns. I generally prefer blacks, greys and bright colours. I never wear pastels really either... |

Glad to see from your profile that you are helping to keep Lancaster Uni's bars afloat - and if you are doing law a penchant for black/grey might be a good start to a career! You're right too about white for mourning (China/Japan), also red in S Africa, purple in Thailand and yellow in Egypt and Burma. Or at least that's what the www tells me! |

I've updated my profile now. Thanks for pointing out how out of date it was! I've not been on here for a while :D

Taste in clothing colour change as ageing happens.
I no longer wear bright colours because it contrasts too much with greying hair and paling skin. (avoiding the mutton dressed as lamb look) I do have some 'old lady beige', but my current preferences are for muted greens and greys. |

Re: Fashion's devotion to Black - do you wear it?
I do think some colours, although black and white aren't technically colours, suit some people more than others.
However, I do think people should be able to dress in whatever colours they feel like wearing. I detest colour fascists. Used to drive me mad. Timid little mouse people coming in with their limited colour/shade palettes, after having their skin/hair colour analysed, by some so called expert from Color (sic) Me Bad, or whatever it's called. If it makes you feel good, when you wear it, it is the right colour for you. The only colour rule an English gentleman needs to follow is for shoes. 'No brown in town'. Even if the shoes do match the handbag. Stick with black. ;):D |
