We get strange folk on a regular basis, they always have someone that could be considered normal fighting their corner.

I always look on it as a fight to keep AccyWeb for it's members,

How many of you agree?

The thing is without fighting them, the easier it is for them to ruin the site.

Think you could've had another option Less let the Idiots stay, but under the proviso they aren't taken seriously. I mean, come on, some of the novelty value they provide, plus it allows for folk to practice their put downs.

No, without the Idiots things wouldn't be quite as entertaining on Accy web. I think there's room for everyone on here, that's what makes it enjoyable. :)

I think the best response is to try not to take them on...don't answer them....try not to participate in the threads they start....just ignore them...and hopefully they will eventually get the message.
That, or bribe one of the mods to kick them out on their bum-bones.
I have particularly avoided the threads on here by a certain person...no names, no pack drill......but it has been relatively easy as this persons interests do not coincide with mine.

Much as I relish the prospect of not having our most recently banned member on here, there is a problem with Less's proposal.

Some members define an idiot as a person who voices an opinion that is not 'mainstream' and non-compliant with their own views.

I have been labelled an idiot in the past for some unorthodox beliefs I hold, and an ex moderator made my posting 'difficult' at times.

A site is only as good as the moderators who control it - leave it to them to make such decisions.

Agreed 100%. As DiG says idiots are great entertainment value and they provide excellent target practice. There's also the question of who decides who's an idiot and who isn't. Let 'em stay but take the mickey out of 'em at every available opportunity, I say! :D

I don't think it was melodramatic, perhaps a bit harsh. Most forums this kind of thread would have been deleted by now.

And it goes to show that careful choice of admin/moderators works, as the undesirables soon get banned. It is not because "the click" (spelt purposefully for comedic effect) wanted them gone(or kestrelx would be banned instead of lasting as long as most here), but because rules are broken and are enforced fairly.

This is the way all forums should be.

Its often been said that new members don't stick around much because they get stick if they come on spouting pure dross, there's a hell of a lot more sites wish they had a 10th of the daily contribution this site gets, in fact out of the 4 local sites Burnley is now like the dodo Rossendale is close, Blackburn is picking up slightly, yet Accy keeps going on and on and on, funny old world ain't it:rolleyes:

Look, it boils down to this - I'm going to go on taking the mickey out of any out-and-out idiot who turns up on here (and they're quite welcome to respond in kind - I won't lose any sleep over it). I can't speak for them, but I'm pretty sure that Cashy, Jaysay, Garinda, Less and the rest of the "click" or "gang" as Mobertol likes to view us ;) , is going to, as well. The only people who can decide what should or shouldn't happen on here are the moderators (who generally enforce the rules quite fairly as Restless rightly says). As Jaysay points out, it doesn't seem to do Accyweb much harm, as we're far and away the most popular, lively local forum around here! :)

So did I when I was told the truth, but you seem to forget that he originally said he was an adult in his 30's and was treated as such. The latest idiot is a 22 year old trainee accountant with a girlfriend and daughter. If that's the truth, then he's old enough and experienced enough to deal with having the rise taken out of him. If he isn't what he says he is, he's breaking the rules and shouldn't be on here anyway.

When Bee came on here he made out he was in his late twenties, and for what it is I've never been convinced that he actually existed, to say he wanted to make so many friends, he never made contact in person with anybody and the easiest person to contact is Lancsdave at giftprint, who would have confirmed his existence:rolleyes:

I'm not interested in who they are......just that the contribute in a reasonable and sensible way...and give something to the forum, rather than make it somewhere that you don't want to be.

I can't vote because there isn't an option which reflects my moderate(not PC)views.

I can't see that attacking them at every opportunity is productive.......and it could be seen as bullying and prevent new members from joining.

There is room for all shades of opinion....and we don't have to agree with what someone is posting, but it is immature to lampoon someone just because we have a theory that they might not be who they say they are....or because we don't like their opinion.

I do not think we should let those who make a mockery of this sensible forum take over either - but don't we have moderators who can look after these issues....and a report button if we think the person has over stepped the mark??

Well with a title like How Many Folk Want The Idiot's To Take Over? and two rather stupid poll questions I didn't expect anyone to actually take it seriously, in fact I expected my favourite mod to move it straight into 'Anything Goes', (perhaps I should have put it there in the first place?).

I think DIG sussed it in the first few moments hence my reply to him with:-

Still the thread manged to get to three pages without anyone actually falling out or getting abusive, quite an acheivement for all concerned. Perhaps we can do it again some time in the 'real' threads?

Personally I find the 'Idiots' liven things up and as they usually appear to go too far are soon dealt with by the moderators( good job well done). I never know why they're banned but they must have asked for it.
We all have the option to ignore them, tolerate them or go in for the kill. They have their options.

I was informed privately of a member's age, and also other issues, which gave me a little more understanding about their sometimes obsessive interest in certain things.

As Marg P. said earlier, when someone new joins, who does turn out to be an internet troll, someone who knowingly writes inflammatory posts, purely to gain attention, the best thing to do is to try not to respond.

Trolls are tiresome, and we've seen many come and go on here over the years.

They rarely seem to have much staying power. Bless 'em.

If a new member plays the fool, I'll happily help them achieve this.

One of my own favourites was the photographer who said his civil liberties were under attack, when he was questioned by the police in Accy.

I found evidence he was actually a member of various Irish para-military organisations, whose stated aim was to create conflict with our police forces.

He came on here threatening to sue.

He didn't.

Unsuprisingly, when faced with all the evidence.

The forum has rules, and it's always wise to keep them in mind when posting.

That way you can sail close to the wind, but you never get banned.

Well I haven't...so far.

AudiBMWguy may have been right who's to say he is an idiot? Some people have limited views and when someone does not post in line with those views then they attack them for being different! Is that fair? To label those as idiots and then bar them just because they have different views?

I don't really form opinions, I avoid having them as much as possible being fairly able at sitting on the fence - i just write what comes into my head at the moment - sort of stream of consciousness stuff.

I'm pretty sure you wrote the poll title realising it could be read two ways - quite clever in a way, that's how all these polls work. The market research group or those working perhaps for the local council (a random example!) place the questions in such a way as to always have the answer they want to hear! It's like statistics -there are many ways of interpreting them and you can always work things round to suit your way of thinking.

As to the WWW -I always forget that what I write here can be read by just about anybody (scary) - right now I'm just speaking to you:D
