No he's a Manc ( Bury ). Bury talk is the same as Manchester with a bit of a lilt in it ( Bury is dormitory for Manchester ). Peter Kay, Paddy McGuinness from Bolton ( which although coming under Gtr Mcr -and hate it- since 1974 ) is the epitome of Lancashire twang. Rochdale & Oldham are not as broad as Bolton and neither is attractive as a Manchester dormitory unlike Bury which has bucked the recession and become a tourist attraction. Bury is extremely sought after for the Manchester commuters just like Bramahall, Cheadle Hulme, Marple etc _ Burys villages Greenmount/Tottington and more are people from Manchester who want a better lifestyle esp for their children, but within reach of their beloved city 9 miles south of Bury. Try this one : Bury never gets called 'town' : Bury people call Bury by its name even though they've lived there all their lives plus the commuters : going to 'Town' for Bury residents means Manchester. Great thread that needs keeping alive.

Just read through this super thread. I'm confused about Mr Dingle coming from Burnley. If they mean the bloke who plays Zac Dingle , he is from Bury. As for the folk from Morecambe no one has mentioned my favourite Albert Modley. I loved him playing the drums and then pretending to drive a tram. When you think how many entertainers have come from Lancashire it is amazing. There must be more than from any other county.

A Dingle to us is someone that has difficulty understanding the simplest of facts such as, where the Dingles live.

It is perhaps only coincidence that they all come from Burnley?

Please, do not get the idea that I don't like the people from Burnley, that is not the case, if I meet a group of them, I will socialise with them, I just know that I have to speak more slowly and use simpler words to allow them to keep up with the conversation.

Its not just Less most people around Hyndburn call em Dingles, i have some good mates from yon, but still address em as Dingles.:D

It might surprise you to know that some of us in Burnley were actually born in Accy. please dont tar us all with the same brush.

Don't really know how it's properly pronounced, because whenever my missus caught site of her un-opened one on my bookshelf she would always say, "Let's go the chippy", (which is a strange way of pronouncing, "I'm sending you to the chippy").

It seems the Lancashire accent can be confusing even when your reading something.

One of the lads came in to the pub and during a conversation asked if anyone had used nowt five.com because he was thinking of signing up to it for use at home. None of us had heard of it so we asked about it, 'well, he said they supply T.V. programmes for use at home and according to the letter they'd sent him it looked a good deal'.

I got my mobile out and said I'd look it up for him, I couldn't find nowt five or anything like it, he glanced at my screen and said, 'no wonder you can't find it your putting it in wrong, it's spelt nowtv.com not the way your doing it!'.
