Picture Framer.
 

Ok, whose good at Picture Framing these days ?

Fell off my wall last night (sob). Nothing mysterious ... string had rotted, had been up there for 18 years.

It's funny how they appear to fall in slow motion... lol.

The frame looks intact and it seems only the glass needs replacement.

Oswaldtwistle glass (opposite Civic Hall) once did something similar for me.

There's a shop on Bank Street in Accrington but I'm not sure if it's still open, seem to remember something on the Observer recently about the man who owns it coming up to retirement?

The shop on Bank St closed at the beginning of November, lack of customers, it was his father who did the picture framing side of the business, the father started working from home about 3 years ago. No way to contact either of them now.

Thing is, say with Trevor Adams, would he not try to sell me a new frame ?

It's not worth a fortune, but was quite an expensive print and it does need doing by someone qualified ... that's why I don't just want to visit The Range or anything.

Reglazing will involve dismantling the frame at two opposite corners, placing a sheet of glass and reassembling the frame. Frames are held together with small tacks.

It is not an impossible task for a lay person to achieve. The skill is getting the correct size of glass.

When I used Oswaldtwistle Glass to replace a mirror, I watched as they did it. The mirror had been accidentally knocked off the wall by men delivering a new washer, and the replacement cost was paid by insurers of the firm who supplied the washer - so it was logical for me to let them do it for me.

It is a sort of DIY job that I would otherwise have tackled myself. I don't recall how much it cost, but I know I got a better quality of glass/mirror as a replacement. No doubt mirrors are more expensive than plain glass anyway so even if I had remembered the cost, it wouldn't be a guideline to the cost of the job you need doing.

If you take the job to a picture framer, you will have to wait whilst he orders the glass from a glass merchant. It seems reasonable to cut out a 'middleman' to reduce cost.

Not too bothered about the cost ... just like the picture. It goes with the decor (I am such a peasant).

Sorry Margaret but the frame does not need dismantling, the contents of the frame are held in place by pins at the back, some times covered by brown paper tape.
Trevor Adams can usually supply the glass from stock.
Katex if you don't want a new frame say so.

It is a good frame with a heavy backing. It's just if you don't get the print exactly right, it will start to sorta' bubble up.

By the way, never sure where to put broken glass these days ? Before the blue box, had to wrap in packing (to avoid injuries to the collectors). Can I now put straight in the box now ? Can't see anything on HBC website.
