Rolls of Honour

An enquirer has approached the Council asking where she might find the Roll of Honour for Howard and Bullough's employees who were killed in the two World Wars. The Library had the one for Broad Oak but couldn't offer any further help. I thought such information might be in the County Archives, even available online? Do any of you local historians know where Rolls of Honour for former factories and mills in Accrington and its surrounding townships might be kept?

Most of the pubs, clubs, mills, chapels & church R-O-H have vanished, those made of metal were stolen, the others were skipped when the properties were demolished. As for them being in the County Archives, no way, even less chance for them to be online, do people not realise the cost of such ventures. William Turner & I collected and copied names from most of the WW1 memorials before they were destroyed, I also tried to photograph then if the light was good enough (flash was no good for a lot). Bill & I were often asked what do you want them things for.
Never seen one for H & B, I remember seeing one in Lang Bridges once in the office block, but I was only an apprentice then over 60 years ago. Probably most of the WW1 Bulloughs men are in my files.

Re: Rolls of Honour

Thanks Retlaw, will pass this information on. I still see some Rolls of Honour in Churches like St. Paul's, Immanuel and All Saints in Oswaldtwistle.

Thats just 3 that are still active, what about Abbey St Weslyans, Union St Weslyans, Christ Church, Oak St Congies, Woodnook Baptists, Higher Antley Meths, etc, all their R-O-H's vanished, but I still have the names that were on them.
Christ Church now has the one I made, the original got lost when the tower was pulled down.
